    MUNCIE - Glenn E. Scroggins, 61, well-known Muncie man, died late Friday afternoon in Ball Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.

    He was born in Muncie, the son of Robert and Alverta Johnson Scroggins, graduated from Muncie Central High School, class of 1958, attended Ball State University and spent his entire life in the Muncie area.

    Mr. Scroggins was serving as City Building Commissioner the past 7 years prior to his death. Glenn retired as Battalion Chief Fire Investigator in 1995 after serving 30 years with the Muncie Fire Department. While with the department, he founded the Arson Investigation Unit for the department.

    In 1983, he was elected the Delaware County Coroner and served until 1987. He served as Deputy Coroner from 1987 until 1994 and served as Deputy Auditor with Auditor, Jack Stonebraker.

    Mr. Scroggins was a member of Delaware Lodge 46, F&AM, Eagles Lodge 231, Indiana Association of Building Officials, Board of Plumbing Inspectors, Muncie Redevelopment Commission, UEA and was joint project co-coordinator with Bill Smith for the Youth Opportunity Center.

    Glenn was one of the first to be certified as a Medico Legal Death Investigator. He was a former member of the Muncie Police Reserve for 20 years.

    Surviving are his wife, Lana Floyd Scroggins; four children, Michael Scroggins (wife: Lisa), Michelle Privett (husband: Barry), and Matthew and Michael Grindstaff; his mother, Alverta Scroggins; a granddaughter, Abigayle Scroggins; a grandson, Zachary Haitt; three brothers, Donald Scroggins (wife: Betty Ann), Bobbie Scroggins (wife: Marilyn), and Gene Scroggins (wife: Marilee); two sisters, Pauline Sailor and Shirley Hale (husband: Fred); his mother-in-law, Charlotte Floyd; his brother-in-law, Vollie Floyd (wife: Pat); sister-in- law, Cheryl Batt (husband: Don); several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many many loved ones.

    His father, Robert Scroggins, died in 1985.

    Services will be held in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Jerry Miller and Rev. Rod Eiler officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.

    Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday or 1 hour prior to service time on Wednesday. Delaware Lodge 46 will conduct memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
