    Virginia "Ginnie" Scroggins, 60, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at her home.

    She was born Oct. 27, 1942, in Drexel, the daugher of Bob and Minnie Tarter Symington.

    She graduated from Lafayette High School, St. Joseph, in 1960.

    She had tended bar in the St. Joseph area for years and was co-owner of the Oregon Recreation and Restaurant from 1977 until 1984. She moved to Kansas City in 1986, returning to St. Joseph in 1998 due to failing health.

    She is survived by three sons; two daughters; six sisters, a brother; 12 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    Memorial services were held Wednesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Burial will be at a later date.

    Memorials may be made to the Kendallwood Hospice or American Lung Association.

    Virginia “Ginnie’’ Scroggins, 60, St. Joseph, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

    Born Oct. 27, 1942, in Drexel, Mo., she had been a St. Joseph resident most of her life.

    Ginnie went to Neely Grade School and was a member of the Class of 1960 at Lafayette High School. She was of the Christian faith.

    She tended bar for many years in the St. Joseph area, including Jerri’s Lounge, Club 408, 36th Street Food & Drink Co., and Frances Galloway’s, to name a few. She moved to Oregon, Mo., in 1977 and became co-owner of the Oregon Recreation and Restaurant until 1984.

    In 1986, she joined the F.W. Woolworth Co., transferring in 1988 to Kansas City, where she spent 10 years working for Woolworth’s. She managed Godfather’s Pizza and Wendy’s Hamburger and then helped close F.W. Woolworth’s doors for good in 1997. She returned to St. Joseph in 1998 due to failing health.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Minnie (Tarter) Symington; paternal grandparents, Bill and Viola Symington; maternal grandparents, Barney and Hazel Tarter; and longtime companion, Ed Miles, in 1995.

    Survivors: three sons, John Cruz, St. Joseph; and Billy Joe and Tim Cook, both of Stewartsville, Mo; two daughters, Tammy Walker, Tulsa, Okla; and Suzan Lawhon, St. Joseph; six sisters, Jonna Clark, Dorothy Bradley, Betty Liu, Margie Boatwright and Marlene Canterbury, all of St. Joseph; and Gloria Shaver, Lebanon, Mo; brother, Larry Symington, Gautier, Miss; 12 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. She also is survived by her two best friends and companions, Tally and Sadie.

    Memorial service: 7 tonight, Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Family visitation: 5 to 8:30 p.m. today, at the funeral chapel. Inurnment: at a later date. Memorials: Kendallwood Hospice or American Lung Association.6
