   I am doing research on my family history and have hit a roadblock on the Scroggins side of my family. I can only go back to my Great Grandfather on this side of the family due to something that happened with my grandfather. He did not want to acknowledge something that had happened to him. I am looking for any help that I can get to help me gather information on his parents, so that I can research my family further.

   My Great Grandfather is Alvin Stephen Scroggins
   Born 26 JUN 1904
   Died MAR 1984 in Vinton, IA
   
   My Great Grandfather was married to an indian woman named Lola Smith. They had 3 children (or more) including my Grandfather Richard. Something happened and my Great Grandfather divorcedleft Lola and re-married. My Grandfather was then raised by Lola's Mother "or" Aunt. We believe her name was Rose Smith. It is believe that Rose and Lola were Cherokee Indian, but we are unable to confirm any of the information about Lola or were Alvin and Lola lived, or married because Alvin and Richard were so bitter about what happened. Whatever happened was never able to be discussed and my grandfather took it to his grave. My grandfather and Great Grandfather had a very good relationship in later years, so we believe they were both bitterangry at Lola and Rose Smith. Since there is no real knowledge of our family history past Alvin Scroggins, I am stuck.
   
   I have a feeling that Alvin may have been from the Oklahoma area. I have a feeling that that is were Richard was born as well. It was rumored that 3 Scroggins fought for the North and 3 fought for the South during the Civil war, but this is complete speculationhearsay.
   
   Do you have any pointers? I am still relatively new to this. As far as we know our last name has always been "SCROGGINS".

   Rick W. SCROGGINS Rick was born in Seattle, March 11, 1945, and passed away tragically, July 5, 2003. Preceded in death by father, Richard 1999 and brother, Steve 2001. Survived by mother, Patricia Scroggins, sisters, Marcella Sullivan, Vicki (Jim) Oehrle, Sandra (Gary) Snider, Brenda (Carl) Kirchner and brother, Lynn (Rose) Scroggins, and many nieces and nephews. Rick was a quiet man, who loved babies, animals and the great outdoors. We will never forget our last camping trip over Memorial weekend, where he kept us in stitches all night long. We want to thank the hospital staff for tyring in vain to save our brother, and to Pat Brean for being there for Rick. Rick, you will never be forgotten. We will love and miss you always. Remembrance may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

   Patricia Ann SCROGGINS Pat was born in Vinton, Iowa. October 29, 1930, and passed away May 21, 2009. Preceeded in death by husband Richard, 1999, sons, Steve, 2001 and Rick, 2003. Survived by daughters, Marcella Sullivan, Vicki (Jim) Oehrle, Sandra (Gary) Snider, Brenda Kirchner and son; Lynn (Rose) Scroggins. She has seven grandkids and 11 great grandkids. Pat was a gentle person who loved her husband of 51 years and always had time for her children. Mom, you were the love of our life and you will never be forgotten.We will love and miss you always.
