    J. W. Scroggin died at his home near Mason, Thursday, December 15. He had been in poor health for some time and his death was not unexpected. J. W. Scorggin, son of W. T. and Amanda Reed Scroggin, was born January 29, 1856, therefore he would have been 72 years old within a little more than a month. He was married to Mattie E. Dixon May 31, 1877. She died June 6, 1909. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive, four boys and two girls. The living children are, O. R., W. T., F. M., and Dewey Scroggin, Mrs. W. B. Willis of Louisville, and Mrs. S. C. Dills. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. Mr. Scorggin was again married to Mollie E. Beard, December 19, 1910, who still survives. He united with the Christian Church at the age of 18 years and was a deacon or elder for forty years. He was a good husband, a kind and indulgent father and leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
