MUNCIE - Alverta F. Scroggins, 92, Muncie, passed away Friday afternoon, June 25, 2004 at the Muncie Health Care Center.
She was born October 5, 1911, in Fentress County, Tennessee, the daughter of Mary Ann Byrd Johnson and William Marion Johnson Jr. After completing school in Fentress County, she married Robert C. Scroggins on March 4, 1928, and moved to Muncie to begin raising a family of seven children. Since that time, Alverta has been an indisputable, rock-solid wife, mother and citizen in the Muncie area.
Survivors include two daughters, Pauline Sailor, Muncie and Shirley J. Hale, (husband-Fred), Clarkson, Kentucky; three sons, James E. Scroggins, (wife-Mary Lee), Richmond, Texas; Bobbie D. Scroggins, (wife-Marilyn), Muncie and Donald R. Scroggins, (wife-Betty Ann), Muncie; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Robert C. Scroggins; two sons, William S. Scroggins and Glenn E. Scroggins; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; her sister; three half-sisters and six half brothers.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of THE MEEKS MORTUARY and CREMATORY with Pastor Jerry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday or, after 10:30 a.m. Monday.
