    Daviston - Graveside services for Mrs. Bernece Laura Welsh Cotney, 92, will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at the Bethlehem-New Salem Cemetery in New Site, Ala. with the Rev. A.L. Courtney officiating. Mrs. Cotney went to her heavenly reward on Saturday, June 13, 2009. She was born November 17, 1916 in Alexander City to Charles William Welsh and Bernie Foshee Welsh. Mrs. Cotney was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. She was active in First Baptist Church in Wadley and her home church, Daviston Baptist Church, playing the piano; leading women's missionary groups and serving in the past as Associate WMU Director. Mrs. Cotney worked as a nurse anesthetist for many years in Birmingham and local hospitals. She supported many Christian and educational groups including the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Mellow Valley School and Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. Mrs. Cotney was preceded in death by her husband, Braxton Bunyan Cotney; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles William Welsh; three sisters, Bennie Sue Welsh Scroggins (Raymond), Ruby Welsh Wilkins (Millard) and Margarene Welsh Galloway (Ross); and one brother, Willie Green Welsh. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jimmie Welsh, of Alexander City; several nieces, nephews and many faithful friends.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Bethlehem-New Salem Cemetery Fund, c/o William Vickers, 13224 Hwy. 22 East, New Site, Ala. 36256.
