MILLER, FREDERICK A., God has called home our devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Fred Miller departed this earthly life on Feb. 11 at the age of 93. He was born on January 25, 1915 in Louisville. After graduating from DuPont Manual High School in 1934, and he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Louisville in 1949. He enjoyed a career of 34 years with the Kentucky State Dept. of Health and retired in 1974 as Assistant Director of the State Health Dept. Laboratories. Fred was a member of the Kentucky Public Retirees organization, Shawnee Masonic Lodge, and a lifetime fan of UofL Cardinal Athletics. He loved creating and sharing projects from his workshop, coin collecting and picture framing were hobbies he enjoyed for many years. Fred met his future wife, Marjorie Scroggin at St. Luke's Evangelical and Reformed Church, where they and their families were longtime members. They are currently members of St. Stephen United Church of Christ. Preceding him in death are his loving parents, Rose and Joseph Miller; sister-in-law and husband Elizabeth and Lillard Schmidt; nephew, Gene Schmidt; and his son-in-law, Arthur Baylis. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, the former Marjorie Scroggin Miller; daughter, Marjorie Ann Baylis of Houston, TX; grandsons, Brian Baylis of Houston, TX and Jeffrey Baylis of Austin, TX; niece, Gail Schmidt Gordan and her children, Stephanie Firestone, Todd and Aron Gordan of Michigan, and Sandra Schmidt and family of New York. We were blessed to share our lives with such a dear, sweet man. He always set an example of graciousness, gentleness, and generosity for all of us. The family would like to thank the staff of Christopher East Rehabilitation Center for their loving care this past year. Visitation will be on Friday, February 22, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. and the memorial service on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville.
