Mr. Phillips died May 1, 2008, in Nacogdoches. Born Oct. 15, 1937, in Nacogdoches, he was the son of Leonard and Etta Bell Scroggins Phillips. He was self-employed as a carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Louise Phillips; sons, Chuck Phillips and David L. Phillips, both of Nacogdoches; step-daughter, Jamie Jones of McAlaster, Okla.; and nine grandchildren.
