   MICHIGAN CITY - Winifred H. Scroggin, 85, Michigan City, died at 11 p.m. Saturday (June 7, 2008) at home with her family by her side.
   
   Cremation has taken place. There is no visitation. Root Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
   
   Winifred was born March 10, 1923, in Brill, Wis., to George and Edith (Zimmerman) Searle, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 19, 1943, she married Donald Scroggin, who survives in Michigan City.
   
   Also surviving are four sons, Michael (Annette) Scroggin, Michigan City, Richard (Joan) Scroggin, La Porte, Brian (Andrea) Scroggin, Indianapolis, and David (Pamela) Scroggin, La Porte; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther (Robert) Canon, DeKalb, Ill.
   
   She was preceded in death by four sisters.
   
   Winifred worked for Abbott Labs, Fort Sheridan, and was retired from the Michigan City Area Schools as a secretary at Knapp and Mullen elementary schools. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active in square dancing in the area.
   
   Memorials maybe made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, La Porte Hospital Hospice or American Cancer Society.

   MICHIGAN CITY - Donald Scroggin, 87, Michigan City, passed away at 4 p.m. Friday (July 18, 2008) at home with his family by his side.
   
   The family has chosen a private visitation service. Root Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
   
   Don was born May 26, 1921, in Independence, Iowa, to Donald Sr. and Mildred (Fouts) Scroggin, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 19, 1943, he married Winifred Searle from Rice Lake, Wis. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2008.
   
   Surviving are four sons, Michael (Annette) Scroggin, Michigan City, Richard (Joan) Scroggin, La Porte; Brian (Andrea) Scroggin, Indianapolis, and David (Pamela) Scroggin, La Porte; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
   
   Don retired from the South Shore Railroad as a compliance officer after 30 years of service. He was a member of Elks Lodge 432 and St. Paul Lutheran Church. For many years, he served as a square dance caller in local clubs.

   Mrs. Winifred H. Scroggin, 85, of Michigan City, died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 11 p.m. at home.
   
   She was born March 10, 1923, in Brill, Wis., to George and Edith (Zimmerman) Seale.
   
   Mrs. Scroggin worked for Abbott Labs, Fort Sheridan, Ind. and was retired from Michigan City Area Schools as a secretary at Knapp and Mullen Schools.
