Hagadone News Network Wednesday, July 8,2009 A5 As a Christian, "Granny" believed the ultimate healing is going to Glory - she has joined her loved ones and her Lord on July 2,2009, at age 85. She was born the Hamaker youngest, on Dec. 18,1923 in Barry, Ala., to Sarah and Joseph Freeman.

Her mother, father and loving brothers and sister have all gone before her. She graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham, Ala., in June 1942 with honors. She married Carl L Higginbotham on Sept 17,1943, and moved to California where she raised three children: JerrySue, Dennis and Janice. She met and married the love of her life, Robert M. Hamaker, on Dec. 14, 1968. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12,1979.

Velma was a medical records transcriber and worked for numerous health departments and hospitals before she and Bob moved to Idaho in 1977 to be closer to their two daughters and families. She then worked for Dr. Eggleston, Dr. Slaughter and finally, Family Medicine of Coeur d'Alene, where she worked until retirement in 1997.

She loved reading, crossword puzzles and often read the dictionary for more knowledge. She was a real American History buff and retained all she lived through and read. She also kept many memories written down of how she grew up and those stores will be cherished forever. She loved living near her children and families here in Idaho. She was a bright light in our lives and we all spent many hours at family gatherings together.

She leaves behind children: JerrySue and Gregory Limandri, Worley, Idaho, Dennis and Teresa Higginbotham, Grass Valley, Calif., Janice and Robert R. Wheeler, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; stepdaughter Holly and Jim Michael, Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; grandchildren Matthew Higginbotham, Grass Valley, CaBf., Dawnell and Mark Scroggin , Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Stefani and John Hoffman, Worley, Idaho, Robert E.
