I've been looking for any information regarding Adolph Scroggins (sometimes spelled Scruggins). He appeared in Natchitoches Parish (record-wise) in 1854 when he married Catharine Longlois. He later married Odalie Rachal - and had lots of children with both of them.
Census records indicate that he was born about 1831 in Louisiana and that his parents were also born in LA. An older relative of the family says that his father's name was George.
There is a census listing in Natch. Parish 1840 for a Mrs. Scroggins - and there is a male in the 5-10 year age- range. So, if that's him, did his father die before 1840?
I also wonder if his last name got misspelled (he could neither read nor write) - a possible French name (soundex) is Savagin or Saragin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! 2 May 2002.6
