Whole number of deaths recorded, 178, an increase of 40 over 1889. The percentage in 1000 is a little under 20, and, although that figure is unusual for Natick, still it is to be observed that a large proportion of the deaths recorded were of aged people and therefore the heavy mortality need excite little alarm.

Ancient Records

During the past summer the ancient records of Births, Marriages and Deaths in Natick has been copied, classified and indexed in substantial volumes by order of the Selectmen at the comparatively small expense of $150. These records cover the period from 1719 to 1843. The work was done by Mr. John H. Coolidge, who is, perhaps, the man best qualified in these parts to undertake the task. The Clerk has examined and diligently compared the new volumes, with the original pamphlets (which are still preserved,) and can certify that the later edition is neat,, tasteful and accurate, and may be accepted as a faithful transcript of the earlier records.
