First assignment was 13th Regiment of Infantry, in NM, actively engaged against the Apache Indians under Geronimo.
Sent as part of the Miles Expedition for the occupation of Puerto Rico during Spanish American War.
Later sent to the Philippines in 1899 and again in 1905, took part in suppression of Moros' Insurrection. Played lead a charge in the Battle of Bud Dajo on March 7, 1906, on Sulu Island. Note Savannah Press for 19 May 1906.
Then stationed at Fort Bliss, promoted to Major in 1908, retired.
Moved to Puerto Rico.
Recalled as Military Attaché to Switzerland just prior to WWI.
