Pre Civil War partner with General Alexander R. Lawton. After the war became part of Jackson, Lawton, and Basinger at end of 1866.

Active in reorganization of Savannah Guards Militia; promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

Helped design GA state flag.

Moved to Dahlonega, GA, in 1885; built fancy home; moved to Athens, Athens-Clarke Co., GA, in 1894.
