The John SCHNEIDER family arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania May 16, 1881 on the ship Zeeland from Antwerp, Belgium. A daughter and her husband Louise SCHNEIDER and John ROBERTS stayed in the area moving to Pittsburgh. Like many recent immigrants the SCHNEIDER's changed the spelling of their last name to SNYDER during World War I. Some in the family changed back to SCHNEIDER some stayed SNYDER and most are found under both spellings.
My grandparents Elizabeth SCHNEIDER 1890 Massillon, Stark County, Ohio to 1932 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana and Milo FOLLIS 1890 Delphos, Van Wert County, Ohio to 1944 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. They are buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
My great-grandparents John SCHNEIDER 1843 Alsace Loraine, Germany to Stark County, Ohio to 1917 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana and Margaret LONGENFELDT 1849 Germany to Stark County, Ohio to 1925 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. They are also buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Second great-grandparents Oliver SCHNEIDER died before 1880 in Germany and Marie FUHRMAN 1810 Germany to 1897 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. Daughters Mary married Peter WILHELM and Louise married John ROBERTS both in Germany. They all arrived in America together in 1881. The ROBERTS stayed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Mary WILHELM family came to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Granddaughter Catherine married Andrew DEITSCHEL. All are buried in the Catholic Cemetery Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The SCHNEIDER's came from Alsace-Lorraine an area fought over for years by Germany and France. Here are some links I have yet to investigate.
