Notes

John and Lucy's children Elizabeth and Sarah also appear in the 1851 Census.

The IGI entries for the above daughters:

From the IGI:

  • married 26 August 1849, Fillongley, John Shakespeare and Lucy Timms

  • Lucy Timms was bapt 21 Nov 1824, Fillongley, dau of Thomas Timms and Lucy

Also from the IGI (children of John Shakespeare and Lucy Timms):

  • George bapt 23 Dec 1849, Fillongley

  • Catherine bapt 19 Jan 1851, Fillongley

  • Elizabeth bapt 4 Sept 1853, Fillongley

  • Ann Hannah bapt 8 March 1855, bur 3 Apr 1855, Fillongley

  • Sarah Ann bapt 9 April 1856, Fillongley

It appears that Lucy's age in the 1881 Census is wrong, because the 1851 Census is in accord with the baptism on the IGI, and reveals that her husband, John Shakespeare, was born 1827 in Maxstoke, Warks.

Also from the IGI:

  • bapt 27 Aug 1826, Maxstoke, John, son of Charles Shakespear and Elizabeth

The children of Charles and Elizabeth (all baptisms at Maxstoke):

  • Catherine bapt 20 June 1819

  • George bapt 11 July 1821

  • Richard Simon bapt 22 Feb 1824

  • John bapt 27 Aug 1826

  • David bapt 11 Jan 1829

  • Joseph bapt 16 Jan 1831

  • Thomas bapt 23 Dec 1832

  • Sarah bapt 24 May 1835

  • Elizabeth bapt 23 Feb 18 37

John (1826-1887) was a descendant of Thomas Shakespear, of Keresley.

Note: the name George is associated with the family in the Fillongley area, and Simon (NB Richard Simon) is associated with the Corley family, which may be indicative of a possible link, and there was a Charles Shakespeare bapt at Corley 30 May 1789, son of Simon and Catherine Shakespeare
