Shakespeare. Many a midland town has its family of Shakespeares, and it's perhaps no surprise to find that few of them are without a boy or a man bearing the first-name of William. One such William Shakespeare, born in Belper, Derbyshire, in 1858, became a newspaper proprietor in Ilkeston, and served as the town's mayor in the early years of the 20th century.
