Handsworth Herald, June 21st 1890. Damaging Perry Wood. Ernest Alfred James of Handsworth was charged with trespassing in Perry Wood and doing damage to underwood belonging to Lady B Scott to the extent of 6d. Lady Scott’s gamekeeper said he saw the defendant together with three other youths about 150 yards in the Perry Wood gathering bluebells. Witness asked him for his name when he gave a false one. The bench fined defendant 17s 6d or, in default 7 days hard labour – defendant, will you allow me time to pay it in. Superintendent Whitehurst said defendant went on an excursion to Weymouth at Whitsuntide and got into trouble there and could not appear to the summons issued against him.
