These are the descendants
of Charlotte Shakespeare. One of Charlotte's children, Mason Shakespeare, is the
great grandfather of Patricia Moncure Thomas. However Mason and his siblings
took the surname of their white father...."Moncure" in their later life. In the
1880 Hinds County, Dry Grove, MS census, Charlotte is living with her brother
Wesley Shakespeare, listed as head of household. Next door to them is the white
Moncure family.

The white Moncure family of
present day and the African American Moncure family had a reunion in
Fredericksburg, VA last year - 2002.
This family is related also to the first US President
George Washington and George Mason. George Mason was a God-father and cousin
to the first Moncures (1740's) George Mason is also known as the father of the
Bill of Rights.
Eunice Moncure Martin, now
(2003) 104 years old knew her grandmother, Charlotte Shakespeare.
