This account, which seems to have been printed in 'The Blackcountryman' (the journal of the Black Country Society) many years ago, includes an account of Elizabeth Shakespeare, the grand-daughter of Benjamin Shakespeare and Elizabeth Brettle, who owned a shop in Cross Street for many years. Included in the account are her close relatives the Hughes and Pearson families.
