Joseph's exact origins are at present unclear. The IGI, admittedly incomplete, has just one possible entry for London for this period:
born 12 April 1806, bapt 25 May 1806, at St Giles, Cripplegate, London, Joseph son of John & Mary Shakespeare.
Another possible child of this same couple:
bapt 14 March 1804, Old Church, St Pancras, Sophia, daughter of John & Mary Shakespeare.
Looking for John & Mary's marriage reveals only one possible London entry:
marriage 26 Dec 1795, St Dunstans, Stepney, John Shakespeare & Mary Eversfield.
St Dunstans was for many generations the parish church of the 'Stepney Shakespeares', which raises interesting possibilities - a John Shakespeare was baptised at St George in the East, Stepney, 21 May 1775, son of Richard & Mary Shakespeare.
However, there exist other possibilities. The entry above may not, of course, be Joseph's baptism. If it is his parents may have arrived in London from elsewhere - there is a marriage recorded at Coventry, for example, of a John Shakespeare and Mary.

Notes
|
From the IGI - John & Mary Shakespeare, of Coventry, had the following children:
It will be noted that there is a gap between 1802 and 1809, leaving open the possibility that the family moved to London and had several more children before returning to their native Warwickshire. John Shakespeare and Mary Hyatt married 13 June 1796 at St Michael, Coventry. Another John & Mary had two children baptised at Dudley: William in 1805, and Josiah in 1809, but these can be accounted for as descendants of the 'Black Country' family. Two possible further children of Joseph & Mary (Ann) appear on the IGI:
