Some terms used in the Manorial documents:
seneschal - the Lord's steward
messuage - dwelling with outbuildings
homage - male jurors of the Court
heriot - tribute (an animal or a fine) paid to the Lord on the death
of a tenant
seisin - possession of freehold (to have seisin is to be
seised)
burthen - burden
fealty - acknowledgement of allegiance
without impeachment of waste - freedom for tenant to do whatever he
likes with his land, short of malicious damage
virgate - an area of land, usually about 30 acres, but could be
between 15 and 40 acres
yardland - another name for virgate
