The Will of

Nicholas Shakespeare, of Budbrook, Died 1655

In the name of God I Nicholas Shakespeare of the Parish of Budbrook in the Countie of Warwick being aged and weake in body but of perfect memorie praise be God doe here make my last will and Testament the Twentie third dday of October and in the year of our Lord one Thousand six hundred and fiftie as aforesaid. Imprimie I bequeath my body to be buried in Budbrook Church or Churchyard and my soul I submitt to th'almighty God my Creator and Saviour. Item I give and bequeath to the poor of the Parsh of Budbrook Foure pounds to be distributed to them at the discretion of John Neale and Richard Parkes. Item I give and bequeath to my brother in law Richard Parkes Fiftie pounds. Item I give and bequeath to my Cosin Richard Nash Ten [two?] pounds. Item I give and bequeath to William Satchwell of Packwood Ten pounds. Item I give and bequeath (my funerall expenses being discharged all the rest of my goods cattle chattels & possessions [-] unto Marie Shakespeare my dear wife whom I doe make and ordain Executrix of this my last will and Testament. Nicholas Shakespeare his mark. Witnessed Thomas Spenser William [-].

This will was proved at London before the Judges for probate of wills and granting of Administrations. The Eleventh daie of November in the yeare of our Lord one Thousand Six hundred fiftie and Five. By the oath of Marie Shakespeare the relict of the deceased and sole Executrix named in the will. To whom Administration of all and singular [-] goods chattles and debts of the said Nicholas. She being by virtue of a commission first sworn well and trulie to Administer the same.
