Danbury 1850 Census
Below are transcriptions from the 1850 Census, showing two household listing. For each, the household head is listed first and all others living at that address are listed underneath, indented. The name of each Shalvoy family member is bolded.
What does this census information tell us about our Shalvoys? Obviously, Patrick, Jane and Mary are living in Danbury by mid 1850 and it appears they have been there for at least a little while as they are "established". Patrick is working as a hatter and Mary as a servant. Patrick and Jane are living together in a house with no other families. Did these 3 siblings come to Danbury first, leaving Owen in Ireland with his young sister, Rose, and aging mother, Bridget? That's a good possibility. We do know that if Owen, Rose and Bridget came later, it was not by much, as Rose was married in Danbury in Sept. 1852.
