General Notes: Notes for ELIZABETII B. LEFFLER:
Brother McFerris-Permit me, through the Advocate, to announce that on day before yesterday, at 2 o'clock, P.M., death entered the quiet domestic circle, and removed from the bosom 0f the church below, to the church above, sister Elizabeth Bagwell, the wife of our mutual friend and brother, Willie Bagwell, Esq. Sister Elizabeth Bagwell's maiden name was Leffler She was born in Montgomery County, Va., October 29,1800, and was united in marriage to her surviving husband, in Boone County, MO., June 28, 1821, but subsequently removed to this (Montgomery) county, Tenn., where, in the year 1834, she became the subject of converting grace, and attached herself to the Methodist Episcopal Church at Bethlehem, and continued an acceptable and worthy member to the day of her death. She was emphatically a church-going member, her seat at preaching and class meeting never being vacated, unless providentially. Her house was for many years the quiet resting place of the itinerant preacher. Few persons, perhaps enjoyed greater satisfaction in contributing to the tempora1 wants of those who ministered in spiritual things, than she. Her aftlictions were protracted under the wasting influence of pulmonary consumption, but the grace of God, which had cheered her for many years in health, did not fail her in aftliction. When the messenger came, he found her with the armor on; and without a struggle or groan. she passed away from the sorrows of earth. to the joys of heaven.
May her bereaved husband and motherless children all live for God, and join her in heaven. is the prayer of their pastor, Joseph Willis

Elizabeth married Willie Bagwell on 28 Jun 1821 in Boone County, Missouri. Willie was born on 12 Jun 1800 in Bedford County, Virginia, died in Montgomery County, Tennessee, and was buried in Bagwell Cemetery, Montgomery County, Tennessee. The cause of his death was Congestion of the Brain.

General Notes: Notes for WILEY (WILLEY) BAGWELL:
Wiley Bagwell, was born July 12, 1800, and died at his home in Montgomery Co., Tenn., Nov. 13 , 1877. Over fifty years he was a member of the Methodist Church, and most of the time an official member. He was a good and faithful servant of God and of the Church, and exemplified in an unusually striking manner the practical and experimental features of our holy religion. Though passing through many severe trials, which doubtless disturbed his spirit very much, he never suffered his courage and zeal to flag, but only girded his armour about him the more securely, and, in the name of God, pressed forward in victory. In his social relations he was remarkably cheerful, and his companionship was sought and enjoyed as much by the young as by the old. His house was ever the abode of hospitality, but especially was he pleased to afford shelter and refreshment to the weary itinerant. His affection and admiration for the faithful minister of God knew no bounds, nor was he wanting in liberality to supply bountifully his temporal wants. Rather than his Society should fall behind in the support of the pastor his custom was to meet whatever deficiency might occur out of his own purse. In his contact with the world, Brother Bagwell never compromised with error, nor suffered any leakage of his Christian vitality, but ever stood erect as the unflinching advocate of truth, commanding unconsciously the respect and veneration of every one with whom he had dealings. A reading man, he hept apace with the progess of events both in Church and State. Particularly he was fond of the Nashville Advocate, to which he renewed his subscription-the last transaction of his life-the day before his death. Lying upon his bed in a semi-conscious and partiall y paralyzed condition, his breathing heavy and hurried, his physical man struggling in its final agonies with congestion of the brain, he called me to his side, and with his trembling, palsied hands gave me $2 to send to Dr. Redford for the Advocate for 1878. The editor would have wept had he been there. Before passing away he stated with emphasis that he was prepared for the great change which he was about to experience. A. T. Goodloe

General Notes: Obit of MARy ANN CATHERINE BAGWELL: ,
Her obituary from the Christian Advocate, Nashville, January 11, 1855:In humble submission to the will of Divine Providence, sister Mary Ann C. Parish, wife of Mr. Allen H. Parish, and daughter of brother Wille and sister Elizabeth Bagwell, of Montgomery County, Tenn., has gone to the grave, and her eternal reward. Sister Parish was born in Montgomery County, Tenn. Sept. 15, 1832; was married to Mr..A1len H. Parish, Sept. 23,1852, and fell asleep in the arms of a merciful Savior, on the 4th of December, 1854. She' had been for eight years a faithfu1 member of the M. E. Church, South, and was all the time a monmnent of the cause she had espoused. Her life has been one continued scene of human kindness and Christian piety. For twelve months sister Parish had been under the withering hand of affiiction, suffering, with very remarkable resignation, all the deceptive ravages of that fatal monster, consmnption. She saw the day of her destiny fast coming, and often spoke of her living hopes and final trimnph. Only a few hours before her death, she told her father that all was well, and she was ready to go; then calmly committing her infant son into the hands of her heavenly Father, for succor, and bidding her mends fairwell, she died in great peace, without a struggle or groan, compelling the monster to leave a heavenly smile on her brow, as a momento of Christian hope. She has lost the earthly association of a worthy and affectionate husband, an infant son, a kind father, three brothers, and one sister, who mourn her loss; but she has gained the etenal companionship of a sainted mother, and all the host of heaven, with its unwithering pleasures. William Alfred Bachler son of Laura Belle Dyke and John Alexander Bachler was born on a farm northwest of Thurman, Iowa on April 24th 1900 and passed to his eternal reward, following an extended illness at his home in the West Oak Community on Thursday, Dec. 7th 1972. He had attained the age of seventy-two years, seven months and thirteen days.--The early years of his life were spent on the farm in the Thurman community. As a lad he attended the old Dutch Hollow School, later graduated from Thurman High school. Where ever he went he made many wonderful and lasting friendships. --On March 20th, 1920 he was united in marriage with Carrie Alph a Boldra of Thurman, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Maxen Elvis Bachler of Hastings, Iowa, Dorothy June Fulton of San Diego, California and Lea Lawson of Lafayette, California. In the years following their marriage they lived at Cherokee, Iowa, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Fremont, Nebraska, and Plattsmouth, Nebraska. However, they finally settled in the Glenwood area where he was employed for many years at the Glenwood State Hospital School. In 1949 they moved to the home in the West Oak Community, where they spent the remaining years of their life. --During the years that his wife, Carrie, was so seriously ill, he faithfully and lovingly cared for her every need. His calm confidence in God Eternal Purposes never wavered. He was like a Rock of Gibraltar to the near and dear by the ties of the flesh. As a lad he received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Personal Saviour, becoming a member of the Christian Church at Tabor, Iowa. --A man of quiet disposition, he was kind and gentle at all times. There were few wasted moments in his life; for he was not a "Talker" but spending many hours in his shop and in his garden. When he could find time he loved to fish by some quiet stream. He always shared the fruit of his labors with his family and friends. He was a good husband and a loving father, and was especially attached to his grandchildren. --Among those who will always hold the memory of this good man precious are his Three children: Max E. Bachler of Hasting s, Iowa. Mrs. Eugene Fulton of San Diego, California, Carrie Jo Brown of Council Bluffs, Iowa , and Robin Fulton of San Diego, California, two great grand children: Scottie and Brenda Fulton of Phoenix, Arizona, a brother: Richard A. Bachler of El Reno, Oklahoma, a sister: Mrs. Vera Van Arsdel of Council Bluffs, Iowa and a host of other relatives and friends. His wife, a brother and a grand-son preceeded him in passing.
