6. William Sharp was born in 1760 in Virginia and died on 11 Mar 1840 in Claiborne County, Tennessee at age 80.

General Notes: William Sharp, Sr., died between Mar. 11, 1840, the date of his will, and Mar. 20, 1840 , when there was a sale of his personal property. (Records of Mrs. Mildred Warren, Smachover , Arkansas, great granddaughter of John G. Sharp.) Attending this sale were William Sharp, Ch ristian Sharp, Henry Sharp, John Parker, and Isaac Sharp. In his will, William bequeathed t o his wife Catherine...and "Whereas I have previously entered to my sons Henry and William Sh arp a portion of my land I wish them to remain where now they are..I nominate and appoint Bos ton Graves and Christian Sharp my executors." Boston Graves was his son in law.

There is a William Sharp on tax list in Anderson county, Tennessee, 1805.

William married Catherine Graves, daughter of Bostian Sebastian Graves and Sarah Efland "Sary", in 1789 in Virginia. Catherine was born about 1770 in Granger County, North Carolina and died in 1840 in Claiborne County, Tennessee about age 70.

The Annals of Southwest Virginia by Lewis Preston Summers, page 932, contain a record o f the sale of 299 acres of land located in Clover Bottom, on Sinking Creek, Montgomery County , for 200 pounds, on July 3, 1798, by William Sharp and Cautherana (Catherine), his wife, t o John Bowen. Upon examination of the records at Christiansburg, Virginia, the writer found t hat this property was surveyed May 19, 1789, and joined land of John Lucas (?). This deed o f bargain and sale was acknowledged in the July Court 1798, "The said wife being first privil y examined as the Law directs, and ordered to be recorded."
The name of William Sharp first appeared on the personal tax records of Montgomery Coun ty, Va., in 1790, he having made a return on June 27, 1790, on 5 horses. In 1791, he was taxe d on 184 acres of land (Montgomery County, Va. Land Book, State Library, Richmond, Va.) and h is name appeared on the personal tax records through 1795, when he was taxed on 6 horses.
Judging from the birth dates and birth places of his children, it was after the sale o f his Virginia property in 1798 that William Sharp moved with his family to Claiborne County , Tenn., where he remained until his death in 1840.
By deed dated May 11, 1803, William Sharp purchased from Francis Mayberry a tract of la nd in Powells Valley joining end of lot A of Henderson and Company.(Claiborne County, Tenn. D eed Book A, p. 80) In 1809 he was granted 100 acres of land by the State of Tennessee-No. 68 2 (Claiborne County, Tenn. Deed Book D, P. 169) as follows: "Know ye that in consideration o f an entry made in the office of the surveyor of the 5th district No. 320 dated Oct. 11, 180 9 and founded on certificate No. 53 there is granted by the State unto William Sharp 100 acre s lying in the county of Claiborne in the District of Hamilton including the place where sai d William now lives beginning at the Mayberry line..."

From records belonging to descendants of William and Catherine Sharp, it has been learne d that William's wife was Catherine Graves, and that she was a daughter of Boston and Sarah E fland Graves. Among Boston's pension papers there was a list of his children, and one of hi s daughters was Catherine Sharp. It is likely that William and Catherine were married in Mont gomery County about the date of survey of his property in that county--May 1789--as their old est child, Sarah, was born in Virginia in 1790.
According to the records of Roy Stockwell, a descendant of the Graves and Sharps, Willi am Sharp was a nephew of Henry Sharp, who married Barbara Graves, sister of Boston, and he ha d brothers named John, George, and Aaron. The 1830 census for Claiborne County lists Willia m Sharp, Sr., age between 60-70 (born between 1760-70) and his wife, between 50-60 (b.1770-17 80). Also appearing in the same census was a George Sharp, Sr., between 70-80. Could he hav e been the George who was in Montgomery County with Henry, John and William Sharp, and whos e wife was named Elizabeth? And was perhaps William's brother?

8. Elizabeth (Betsy) Sharp died on 30 Jun 1879 in Buchanan County, Missouri.

Elizabeth married Boston Graves, son of Peter Graves and Lucy, on 15 Oct 1811.

General Notes: Boston Graves, son of Peter Graves, was married on Oct 15, 1811, to Elizabeth Sharp, daughter of William and Catherine Graves Sharp, of Claiborne County, Tennessee.
Boston Graves served in the War of 1812, being drafted in Claiborne County, Tennessee on April 1, 1813; discharged July 1, 1813.
On May 16, 1878, while a resident of Buchanan County, Mo., Elizabeth Graves 85, applied for a pension for the services of Boston Graves in the War of 1812, stating that her husband died in Pulaski County, Ky., in October 1845, while returning home to Claiborn County from a visit in Missouri. Her application was filed May 21, 1878.

The will of Boston Graves was drawn at Somerset, Pulaski County, Ky., on Sept. 9, 1845. He had evidently been taken ill en route back to Tennessee. The will was probated Sept. 15, 1845, at Tazwell, Tenn. (Will book B, pg 77, Claiborne County, Tennessee) It stated that Bostion was of the State of Missouri, County of Buchanan, and mentioned wife Elizabeth; son Calvin ; Malvena Graves; daughter Sarah McConnel was given land in Andrew County, Mo., and daughters Louisa and Martha Jane Gaiter were mentioned.
