Christopher Columbus Bidwell 1856-1935

Christopher Columbus Bidwell, a native of Shasta county, a former county official and for half a century a resident of the Burney-Hat Creek section, passed on at his home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  He was 79 years of age.

Mr. Bidwell was born at Horsetown, April 9, 1856.  He spent his entire life in the county, with the exception of five years residence in San Joaquin county after he had moved to eastern Shasta in 1884.

Mr. Bidwell served as county supervisor two terms and also was a former deputy county clerk under T. B. Smith and deputy sheriff under Thomas Greene.  The later years of his life were spent in ranching.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Amanda Bidwell; four daughters, Mrs. Edna Heryford and Miss Lola Bidwell of Hat Creek; Mrs. Ethel Smythe of Santa Barbara, Mrs. Harry Sivley of Colusa; a son, Ralph Bidwell of Hat Creek; an 89 years old sister, Mrs. M. C. Green of Anderson; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He had been affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Redding lodge, 56 years, and that organization will conduct graveside rites in Burney cemetery Monday afternoon, following chapel services at the McDonald & Scott mortuary parlors at 1 o'clock.

Violet Edna Heryford 1879-1966

Violet Edna Heryford, 87, died in a Redding rest home yesterday after a long illness.  She was a retired postmistress.

Mrs. Heryford was born July 6, 1879.

She leaves three sons, John C. and Donald R., both of Redding, and C. M. of Alturas; and a daughter, Mrs. R. R. Hays of Redding.

Funeral services are being arranged by McDonald's Redding Chapel.

John Bidwell 1886-1886

Died--At Burney Valley, July 26th, John Bidwell, infant son of C. C. Bidwell, aged two and one-half months.  The funeral took place in Millville on Tuesday.

Cecil Monroe Crow 1904-1980

Cecil Monroe Crow of Anderson died Saturday at Memorial Hospital in Redding.  He was 75.

No services will be held.

Born May 11, 1904, in Colorado, he came to Shasta County in August 1975 from San Francisco.  He was a self-employed appliance repairman.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Anderson; daughters, Mae Meredith of Sacramento, Melva Moran of Galt, Paula Crow of Berkeley and Patricia Crow of San Francisco; brother, William of Wenatchee, Wash.; sister, Cora Friedline of Moses Lake, Wash.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildrn.

Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Jacob Camenisch 1890-1966

Jacob Camenisch,  76, of French Gulch died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kenneth W. Schwartz, in Redding.

Camenisch was born in Switzerland March 4, 1890.  He died following a lengthy illness.

Funeral arrangements are being made at Hesse's Funeral Chapel in Redding.

Louis H. Finck 1932-1966

Friday, June 3, 1966

Funeral services for Louis H. Finck will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at Sanders Funeral Home in Eureka with the Rev. Lloyd Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at the Ocean View Cemetery.

Finck died Tuesday night in Fresno after he was crushed between a tire and the fender of a scraper machine on the San Luis Canal project.  He was 34.

Finck had lived in Fresno for the past month.  Before that, he lived in Redding.

He leaves his widow, Marie of Fresno; and a child, Dorie of Fresno.

He also leaves three brothers, Charles Forrest, James P. and Robert Finck, all of Redding.

Ray Guy Gordon 1892-1983

Ray Guy Gordon, 90, of Redding died Friday at Memorial Hopsital in Redding.  No services will be held.  Remains will be creamted.

Mr. Gordon was born Sept. 21, 1892, in Hutchinson, Kan., and moved to Shasta County in 1936 from Madera.  He was a saw mill worker for 30 years with the former U. S. Plywood Corporation in Anderson.

He is survived by wife Ida; son Neville; daughter DeNela Phillips; and six grandchildren, all of Redding.

Mary Ethel Jones 1889-1966

Mary Ethel Jones, 77, of Redding, died yesterday at a Redding hospital.  She was born Jan. 6, 1889 in Palo Cedro.

Mrs. Jones leaves her husband, Thomas of Redding, and three sisters, Mrs. Maude Barnes and Mrs. Hattie Cain, both of Redding, and Mrs. Ila Larison of Quincy.

Mrs. Jones was past senior regent of the Women of the Moose, past noble grand of the Redding Rebekah Lodge and past president of the Women's Relief Corps.

The Rev. Roy Nelson will conduct funeral services at McDonald's Redding Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday.  Interment will be in Lawncrest Memorial Park.

Private funeral services for Hazel Porter Silva of Las Vegas were to be conducted at 10 a.m. today at McDonald's Redding Chapel.

Mrs. Silva died Aug. 4 at her home in Las Vegas.

She was born Nov. 16, 1909 in Kennett, a small mining town inundated by Shasta Lake.  She also was a former resident of Redding and had lived in Las Vegas for nine years.  She had worked as a Young Men's Christian Association swimming instructor.

She leaves a son, Frank Stanton Silva, address unknown; two brothers, Thomas M. Porter and Ralph N. Porter, both of Redding; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Ehrhardt of Fresno; and one grandchild.

Maybell Arleta Hays 1922-1977

Graveside services for Maybell Arleta Hays of Redding will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Redding Cemetery.

Mrs. Hays died Monday at her home.  She was 55.

She was born May 1, 1922, in Redding and had been a life-long resident of Shasta County.  She was a homemaker.

She leaves her husband, Tracy W., a son, Thomas L., two daughters, Mrs. Gayle M. Billings and Mrs. Kathleen J. Haller, a brother, Lewis J. Westlake, all of Redding; five sisters, Mrs. Mildred Woodfill, Mrs. Tillie Weide, Mrs. Ethel Farmer and Mrs. Betty Zehnle, all of Redding, and Mrs. Gladys Edward of San Bruno; and three grandchildren.

The Rev. William Fleming will officiate at the services.  McDonald's Redding Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
