Graveside services for Vivian Valdez of Romaland [Riverside Co.], Calif., will be 10 a.m. Friday at Pinegrove Cemetery.  Pastor Ronald Stretter will conduct the services.

She had been a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She leaves four brothers, Ivan Grove of Anderson, Clifford and Raymond Grove of Tulelake, and Lawrence Grove of Fort Morgan, Colo.; two sisters, Lillie Durham of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Arlene Dresser of Chicago; and her father, Roy Grove of Tulelake.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McDonald's Redding Chapel.

Wayne B. Leitzell died Monday at Mercy Medical Center in Redding.  He was 61.

At his request, there will be no services.

Born Nov. 2, 1916, in State College, Pa., he lived in Redding since 1950.

An Army veteran, Leitzell was a labor relations specialist before moving to Redding.  He established Shas-Cade Industries Inc. in Redding and also owned and operated Eagle Creek Ranch in northern Trinity County for 14 years.

He was a member of Scabbard and Blade, an honorary military society, and the Grass Valley Elks Lodge.  He was past president of the Shasta-Cascade Wonderland Association, and a member of California Kamloops Inc. and the Trinity County Sportsmen's Association.

He leaves his wife, Cynthia of Redding; a son, Wayne of Grants Pass, Ore.; a brother, Robert, and a sister, Mary Frances Moyer; and three grandchildren.

Justin Bennett Hammer of Shingletown was found dead Friday at his home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  He was 65.

At his request, no services will be held.

He was born April 13, 1913, in Red Bluff.  He lived in Shasta County six years.

He had been an operating engineer 35 years.  He was a member of Operating Engineers Locals 12 and 3.

He leaves his wife, Wilhelmina of Shingletown, and a son, Jay, and a daughter, Kathy, both of Oregon.

Cremation will be at Sierra View Crematory in Marysville.  Inurnment will be on private property in Shasta County.  Lawncrest Chapel in Redding is in charge of arrangements.

William Driscoll  1878 - 1926

William Driscoll, a farmer whose whole life had been spent near Ono, the place of his birth, passed on Tuesday afternoon in a hospital in Redding.  For several years he had been in poor health, and only three days ago he submitted to a major operation as the only recourse left to save his live.  The operation failed in its main purpose, tho it gave temporary relief.

The decedent was born near Onon August 12, 1878, making his age not quite forty-eight years.  He was never married.  Surviving are an only brother, Martin Driscoll of Ono, and an only sister, Mrs. Mary Farley of Gridley.  William Driscoll was a son of the pioneer, Michael Driscoll, who passed on years ago.

The funeral will be held Thursday at an hour yet to be set.

Graveside services for Josephine E. Tigrett, 85, of Central Valley will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Redding Cemetery.

The Rev. Gene Harmon will officiate.

Mrs. Tigrett died Sunday at Memorial Hospital in Redding.

She was born March 6, 1899, in Clarksville, Ark., and moved to Central Valley in 1964.  She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Tigrett is survived by son Homer of Central Valley; daughter Freda Graham of Pasco, Wash.; sister Artie Ayers of Montana; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

McDonald's Redding Chapel is handling arrangements.

Elijah Hill Clark  1833 - 1909

BELOVED PIONEER LAID TO REST

"Uncle Lige" Clark, a well-known pioneer of the Upper Sacramento Canyon, where he lived during the last forty-five years, quietly passed away at his home near Flume on June 21, 1909.

The deceased was born near Pea Ridge, Arkansas, August 10, 1833 and came to California with other early pioneers in 1857.

Elijah Hill Clark was one of Nature's noblemen and by his kindly, genial manner won the love and esteem of all who knew him.

Old-time friends and neighbors followed the remains from the home near Mrs. James Hunter's, to their final resting place in the little cemetery at Conant.

Monday, May 30, 1966

Wendell Irvin Houser, 59, of Summit City died Saturday at a Redding hospital after a short illness.  Houser was born Sept. 11, 1906 in Texas and had lived in the Redding area two years.  He was a heavy equipment operator.

He leaves his widow, Margaret of Summit City; a son, Robert F. of Alaska; five daughters, Mrs. Jackie Kidd and Mrs. Charolette Martindale, both of Summit City, Mrs. Leota Bray of Oklahoma, Mrs. Doris Bosley of Texas and Mrs. Wendella Lyda of Colorado; four sisters, Mrs. Cleo Taylor of Arizona, Mrs. Joyce Harris of New Mexico and Miss Florence Houser and Miss Christine Houser, both of Texas; two brothers, David D. and Chester, both of Texas; and 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services are being arranged by the Linn & Fulkerth Chapel of Redding.

Blanche R. Reynolds  18?? - 1896

Friday, Oct. 2, 1896

News reached this city about noon Friday, that Blanche R. Reynolds, a miner employed in the Hart mine in Old Diggings, had been killed by falling down a shaft.  Coroner Earnest left immediately for the scene of the fatality.

The deceased is well known in this city, having lived here for a year, during which time he was employed on the section crew of the Southern Pacific company.  On September 22, 1895, he was married to Miss Katie Webb of Millville, a sister of Mrs. George T. Smith of Hart and Abe Webb of this city.

Blanche R. Reynolds was a native of California, aged 25 years.

Kate Martin  1873 - 1906

Mrs. John Martin, sister of A. L. Webb of Redding, died at her residence in Millville Thursday morning at 3 o'clock of tuberculosis.

Kate Martin was 33 years old at the time of her death and was a sufferer for over a year from the disease that carried her away.  She was at one time postmistress of Millville, where she was born and reared.  Since her marriage to John Martin she has lived various places, but returned to her old home at Millville several years ago.

Besides a husband, John Martin, employed at the Volta power station of the Northern California Power Company, and two children, a son Blanche and a daughter Doris, she leaves four brothers--W. N. Webb of the McCormick-Saeltzer Ranch, County Recorder A. L. Webb, E. L. Webb of Millville and H. F. Webb of Prattsville, Plumas County--and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Crabb of Sacramento, Mrs. Mary Redmond of Millville and Mrs. Cora Bowman of Glenburn.

Mr. Martin was notified Wednesday afternoon by telephone of his wife's approaching demise, and telephoning ahead for relays of horses he came through from above Shingletown in three hours.  H. F. Webb, her youngest brother, is hurrying through by forced rides from Plumas County.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Burial will be made in the family plot at Millville.

Ed Gould, longtime Redding resident, passed on at his home, 1315 Pine street Tuesday.  He had been affected with heart trouble for years.

Funeral services are in charge of McDonald's Chapel.

He was born April 11, 1863 at Cherokee, Butte, county.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Gould.
