C. Fred Banks, 34, a resident of Cloverdale the past one and one-half years, died at his home yesterday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gale's mortuary, with the Rev. Francis R. Johnson officiating.  Interment will be in Cloverdale cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Betty; a son, Dennis, and brother, Ernie, all of Cloverdale, and a sister and brother and his father and mother, all of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Alphonse Demo 1885-1952

Alphonse Demo, a resident of Redding for 12 years, died at a local hospital last night at the age of 67.

Born in North Dakota, he had been residing at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William E. Allen of Redding.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at McDonald's chapel, with funeral services there at 11 a.m. Saturday.  Interment will follow at the family lot in Redding cemetery, the Rev. Father Thomas O'Brien officiating.

He leaves four sons:  John of Mt. Shasta, Joseph and Henry of Hermiston, Ore., and Steve, stationed with the army in Okinawa; three daughters, Mrs. W. G. Williams of Matheson and Mrs. Leo Phineff and Mrs. William Allen of Redding; and eight grandchildren.

BLACKMON'S BODY SENT TO ALABAMA

The body of Waldrop Pitts Blackmon, who was killed Friday in an accident at the Columbia Construction company gravel plant, was shipped today to Sylacauga, Ala., for funeral services and interment.

Blackmon leaves his wife, Mrs. Verdie Mae Blackmon, and two children.  His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis B. Blackmon, live in Sylacauga.

Monday, April 13, 1942

Mrs. Connie [sic] (Carrie) E. Selvester, 80, died at her home at 1933 California street yesterday morning.

She had lived in Redding for the past 10 years.  Mrs. Selvester was a native of Callahan in Siskiyou county.

She had been ill for several years.

Mrs. Selvester leaves three sons, Vernon and Arnold Selvester of Redding and Leslie S. Selvester of Fall River Mills; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Bosworth of Redding; and a brother, Mortimer Eddy of Centralia, Wash.

Services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the McArthur Grange hall under the direction of the Home Undertaking company.  Interment will be in the Pine Grove cemetery in McArthur.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald's Redding Chapel for Fred Vernal Kessinger Jr., 52, of Redding, who died Monday at Shasta General Hospital.

The Rev. Earl Johnson will officiate.  Burial will be at Redding Cemetery.

Born May 30, 1917 in Fort Smith, Ark., Kessinger was a 10-year resident of Shasta County.

He leaves a son, Gary Kessinger of Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Charles F. Kessinger of Rio Vista and B. Earl Kessinger of Herlong; a sister, Mrs. Addie Mae Shinn of Iola, Kan.; his mother, Clara M. Kessinger of Redding, and one grandchild.

Fern Klaukens 1893-1977

Funeral services for Fern Klaukens of Redding will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in McDonald's Redding Chapel.

Mrs. Klaukens died Wednesday at Mercy Medical Center in Redding.  She was 84.

Born May 4, 1893, in Kennett, she was a lifetime resident of Shasta County.  She was a member of the Redding Chapter 44 Order of Eastern Star; White Shrine, Redding, Daughters of the Nile and past worthy advisor of Rainbow Girls.

Mrs. Klaukens worked 50 years as a clerk in two Redding clothing stores and was co-owner and operator of The Vogue clothing store.

She leaves two nieces, Ruth A. Freeman of Redding, and Jean Oevermann of Smithers, B.C.; a nephew, Orin C. Nesbitt of Los Angeles and sister-in-law, Ruth Hopkins of Redding.

The Rev. Noble Streeter will officiate at the services.  Entombment will be in the Redding Cemetery Mausoleum.

Honorary casketbearers will be Paul Pike, Jack Thompson, ??rry Lune, Ray Dowd, Walt Proebstel and Gilbert Stephens.

Contributions may be made to Shasta-Trinity Heart Association, Box 993, Redding.

Funeral prayers will be said at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lawncrest Chapel in Redding for Jackie Claire Wilson, 2-1/2 years old, who died Friday after being run over by a pickup at her home.

Jackie was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson of Anderson, and was born in Redding Oct. 23, 1972.

She had lived all her life in Shasta County.

Father John Gaffney of Anderson will officiate at the services followed by burial in Lawncrest Memorial Park.

Jackie leaves two sisters, Kimberly Ann and Stefanie Anne, both of Anderson; and her grandparents, John C. Wilson of Bellflower, and Doris McCul of Van Nuys, Ruth Jacobson and Lester L. Winchell.

Henry Tillman Klaukens 1898-1975

Former Redding Fire Department Chief "Heinie" Henry Tillman Klaukens of Redding is dead at 76.

Klaukens died Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Redding following a lengthy illness.
 A native of Redding, he was born Dec. 18, 1898, and had been a resident of Shasta County all his life.

Klaukens had been associated with the fire department since 1916, and was appointed chief of the bureau in 1938.

He was a graduate of Shasta Union High School in Redding.  He leaves his wife, Fern.  They had no children.

Klaukens had fought a continued battle with illness for many years, and retired from active service in August of 1961.

Dr. Noble Streeter of Redding will officiate at the services, followed by entombment in the Redding Cemetery Mausolem.

At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the Shasta-Trinity Heart Association.

Casketbearers will be L. G. "Babe" Wade, Sam White, Henry Snell, Ernest Tedeschi, Jim Erichsrud, and Ray Coffelt, all active retired members of the Redding Fire Department.

Burial services for Carrie Mae Abby, 63, of Anderson, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Anderson District Cemetery.

Mrs. Abby died Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Redding following a lengthy illness.  She was born May 12, 1911, and was a native of Marion, Ohio.

She had been a resident of Shasta County for 13 years, and was a retired secretary.

She leaves her husband Glen of Anderson; a son Ronald of San Jose; a daughter, Mrs. Gail Weaver of Orland; two brothers, Chester Jacobs of Rhame, N.D., and Ralph Jacobsof Michigan; two sisters, Ruby Jacobs of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mary Igon of Rhame, N.D., her mother, Lydia Jacobs of Rhame, N.D., and eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Thelma Beatrice Thomas, 51, died yesterday in Mercy Hospital.

Mrs. Thomas was born Aug. 1, 1915, in Washington, and had lived in Redding for 7 years.  She was a former switchboard operator for the Great Northern Railroad.

Mrs. Thomas leaves her husband, Lindy H. Thomas, of Redding; three stepdaughters, Linda G. Thomas, Jerrie E. Thomas and Charlotte M. Thomas, all of Redding; five sisters, Mrs. A. M. Kingsbury, Selad Valley, Mrs. Pansy Hurd, Libby, Mont.; Mrs. Joe Hartle and Mrs. Burt O'Donnell of Entiat, Wash., and Mrs. Henry Cox of Skykomish, Wash., and two brothers, Glenn Beargeon of Alameda and Kirk Bagwell of Auburn, Wash.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Royal Blue at McDonald's Redding Chapel.  Burial will follow in Redding cemetery.
