Henry Uplegger, Sheboygan County Pioneer Answers Summons

Henry Uplegger, a pioneer resident, died Monday at his home three miles southwest of this city. About two weeks ago he was stricken with apoplexy, and a second stroke Monday caused his death. Deceased was born in Germany, May 2, 1828 and came to this country 51 years ago. Besides the wife the following children survive: John and Emma, residing at home; Henry, this city; Mrs. F. Lindow, town of Plymouth; Mrs. F. Hein, town of Lyndon. Funeral services were conducted Thursday by Rev. Proehl of the Lutheran church.

Bernice Uhl, age 88, of Elkhorn and formerly of Sheboygan died Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at the Lakeland Nursing Home, Elkhorn, where she has lived since 1994.

She was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Antigo, the daughter of William H. and Lucy A. Nelson.

Bernice married Wilford Uhl July 19, 1939 in Antigo and he preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1971.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Sheboygan and was a deaconess of the church and a member of the Ladies Guild.

Bernice moved to Sheboygan in 1939 and lived there until moving to Elkhorn in 1994.

Survivors include her son, her daughter, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Bernice was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers and a son-in-law.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 14, 1999 at the First Presbyterian Church, Sheboygan with Rev. Dennis Cobb officiating.

Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery, Sheboygan.

Memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Nursery, Sheboygan.

The Betts Funeral Home, Elkhorn, is assisting the family.

Emil Uphoff is Stricken Jan. 3d

Emil Uphoff, aged 50, a resident of the town of Herman, passed away at his home Wednesday evening of last week at 11:30. Death was due to pneumonia which developed after he had suffered a stroke the day previous.

The deceased was born September 1, 1883 in the home in which he died, which is located a mile south of Ada. His parents were the late William and Wilhelmina Uphoff. He was united in marriage May 16, 1912, to Miss Anna Hameister of the town of Russell. Besides his widow he leaves three children - Aurelia and Nelda at home, and Walter, who is attending the University of Wisconsin.

Surviving brothers and sisters are Arthur of Plymouth, Herman of Glenbeulah, Theodore of Sheboygan, Mrs. Amanda Schram and Mrs. Alma Kimme of Howards Grove, Miss Meta of Milwaukee, Mrs. Lydia Raeder of Glenbeulah and Mrs. Bertha Brehm of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Funeral services were held from the home Saturday afternoon, followed by rites at the Emmanuel Reformed church, Town of Herman. The Rev. John Gatermann officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Otto Spitzer, Theodore Wickesburg, Carl Korb, Albert Wickesburg, Otto Arnhoelter, and Arno Wehrmann.

Mrs Arthur L. Udell, 66, Sheboygan Falls, died Saturday at St Nicholas Hospital after a long illness. She was the former Elva F. Rhines born 6/4/1907 in Plover, Wisc and the daughter of the late David and Hertha Eichenberger Rhines. She is survived by her husband, 1 daughter, Mrs William {Beatrice} Woods of Spartanburg, SC, 1 son Robert A. Udell of Oaklawn, Illinos, 3 sisters Mrs Paul Retzlaff, Mrs Lester Peterson, and Mrs Roy Bunkelman. Burial will be in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.


Mrs. Charles Ulrich - Sheboygan County Historical Review - Third quarter - 1909

Mrs. Charles Ulrich died at her home in Sheboygan, Dec. 2, after an illness of six months' duration.

Mrs. Ulrich was born in Luebeck, Germany, in 1834. In 1864, she was married to Mr. Ulrich and in 1869, they came to this country. The deceased has been a resident of Sheboygan since 1889.

Wm. C. Ubbelohde of Waldo Called to Rest Sunday

Waldo, Wis. - William C. Ubbelohde, pioneer resident of Sheboygan county, passed away at 9:32 a.m. Sunday at his home here following a stroke he suffered last Tuesday.

He was born in the town Plymouth, July 18, 1852. For 27 years after his marriage he lived on a farm in the town Greenbush, and then for about four years on a farm in the town Plymouth before moving on the present farm here 27 years ago.

He is survived by two sons, Theodore H., of Peoria, Ill.; Carl, of Waldo; three daughters, Mrs. Richard B. Thiel, of Appleton; Mrs. N.V. Bauman, of Oshkosh, and Miss Bessie, of Waldo; four brothers, George H., of Sheboygan; Edward, of Glenbeulah; August of Long Prairie, Minn., and Herman, of Milwaukee, and three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Graves, of Glenbeulah; Mrs. Amelia Coon, of Fond du Lac, and Mrs. Mary Anweg, of Arpin, Wis. His wife and two brothers, Theodore and Charles, preceded him in death. Nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the family home and interment will be in Greenbush cemetery. The Rev. C. D. Mayhew of Sheboygan Falls will conduct the services at the home and the Odd Fellows at the grave.
