Post Office Directory 1854

ALCONBURY is a parish and large scattered village, 5 miles north of Huntingdon and 66 from London, in the Hundred of Leightonstone and diocese of Ely. The living is a vicarage, value £180, in the gift of the Dean and Chapter of Westminster. The Rev. Jenkin Hughes,M.A., is the incumbent. The church id dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul; the tower contains 5 bells, and is surmounted by a spire. There is one Wesleyan chapel, also a National school. The population, in 1851, was 967. The parish contains 3,700 acres. James Rust, Esq. is lord of the manor.
