 EATON SOCON is in Barford hundred, in Bedfordshire, on the borders of this county, and is situated on the Ouse, at a distance of 55 miles north west from London, on the road to St. Neots, of which it is a mile and a 1/4 short. The Benefice is a vicarage, net income, £438, in the patronage of the Duke of Bedford; its inhabitants in 1831, were 2490. Its castle was the seat of the distinguished and powerful baronial family of Beauchamp. At no great distance was the priory of Bushmead, of which only the refectory now remains. Under the authority of the Poor Law Amendment Act, this parish is included in the St. Neots Union.
