In 1871 Alfred's family were living at Wereham. Alfred was the youngest at just 8 months old.Jane's family were at East End, Hilgay. Jane was 4 months old. In 1881 Alfred was aged 12. The family were still in Wereham. By 1881,Jane's father had died. The family was at Ely Rd, Hilgay. She was 10. I have yet to find Alfred in 1891. Jane was aged 20 in 1891, still in Hilgay, at home with just her mother. |

Alfred BRUCE married Jane DIXON in Dec qtr 1894 D'ham Reg Dist.(FreeBMD) In 1901 he and Jane were running the Rose and Crown at Hilgay. they had a son, simply registered on the census as L. BRUCE aged 2, born Hilgay. Hilgay PRs list other baptisms: George Stanley in 1897, Charlotte Louisa in 1898, Alfred in 1900, and Alfred George in 1902. In 1908 , he was listed as a farmer in Fordham in Kelly's Directory. and again in 1933. In 1911, Alfred and Jane are at Fordham with 5 children.
Alfred & Jane's grave is in Fordham churchyard. Alfred died on 8th April 1935 aged 65. Jane survived him until 8th Feb 1947 when she died aged 76 years. Charlotte L. BRUCE married Walter G. MONK in Sep qtr 1921, Downham Edith BRUCE married William C WHITE in Mar qtr 1928, Downham |
