James and Susan CATCHPOLE - my 3x gt g'parents

James CATCHPOLE was born c1753 (calculated from age at burial). But as yet I know not where. His baptism does not appear in either Stow or Wimbotsham register.

He married twice in Wimbotsham, Norfolk. Firstly, to Lucy MERRISON(wid) on 31 Jan 1785 James's first wife, Lucy, died in March 1791. He married Susanna BROWN later that same year.

James CATCHPOLE died in Feb 1840, aged 87 years and was buried in Wimbotsham churchyard on 16 Feb.

Susanna BROWN ........ appeared on the 1841 census, widowed, aged 78, a pauper, living with her adult children in Wimbotsham, Norfolk. the 1851 census gave her birthplace as Barton.

Susan CATCHPOLE died in 1857 aged 92 years, and was buried on 2 September in Wimbotsham churchyard.

Elizabeth (mother Lucy)	bp. 23 May 1788, Stow, to James & Lucy CATCHPOLE. She married (i)Joseph SMART in Welney in 1808, and (ii) Charles REED in 1838. In Welney in 1851. She had seven children with Joseph. (Joseph, James, Jonathon, Edward, Joseph, Benjamin and Lucy)
James	bp. 17 May 1793. Wimbotsham. bur. 20 Sep 1794, Wimbotsham.
James	bp. 20 Sep 1796. Wimbotsham . In 1841, James, aged 45 was living in Wimbotsham with his mother and siblings. In 1851 census, was living in Wimbotsham with his widowed mother Susan(aged 80, a pauper). Buried in Wimbotsham on 3 Feb 1861 aged 65. Seems not to have married.
William	bp. 7 Oct 1798, Wimbotsham.
Susanna	bp. 14 Jun 1801, Wimbotsham. Married William GUTTRIDGE in Wimbotsham on 12 Nov 1831. This couple is not to be found together, so far, on any census in Norfolk. There is a William GUTRIDGE in Runcton Holme in 1841 with a much younger wife Ann. I suspect that Susanna died pre 1841......... Runcton Holme PRs show the baptism of William to William & Susan GUTTRIDGE on 22 Jul 1838. Also, the burial of Susan GUTTRIDGE on 20 Jul 1838 'aged 31'. I believe they also had a daughter Frances b. c1836, but haven't seen her baptism yet. Additionally William GUTTRIDGE m. Ann ALLCOCK in Mar qtr 1841.(FreeBMD)
Robert	bp. 20 Nov 1803. Robert married Mary STEVENS on 23 Dec 1831 at Wimbotsham church. On the 1851 census, he appears aged 49, an ag lab living in Wimbotsham with wife Mary(aged 60) and daughter Ann STEEVENS(aged 34). In 1861 Robert(aged 58) is still with Mary(aged 75) in Wimbotsham. By 1881 Robert is widowed and living at Downham Union Workhouse. he died in 1887 and was buried at Downham on 14 March aged 84 years.
John	bp. 28 Feb 1807. Married twice. [Firstly to Sarah ROBERTSON on 8 Nov 1835 in Wimbotsham.] . He married Susanna CANWELL on 12 Aug 1849 at St Edmund's Church, Downham Market. My 2x gt g'parents.

Eliza (Granddaughter??)	b. 1825. Eliza married Thomas RICHER on 13 Aug 1843 in Wimbotsham. No father was named on her marriage entry, leading me to suspect that she was actually Susanna's illegitimate daughter(no bp. found as yet). I have found three children, Josiah, b 1846, Frances, b. 1851 and Mark, b. 1855. They were living in Downham in 1851, and Wimbotsham in 1861. Thomas was dead by 1881. Eliza was widowed, working as gate keeper at Stow Lodge, Stow Bardolph. She was still there in 1901. Josiah RICHER married in Mar qtr 1867(Free BMD). In 1881, he was 35, married to Anne(b Hants) with one son, Charles aged 2, in Armes St, Heigham, Norwich. In 1901, he was 54, living in Cherry Hinton, Cambs with Annie, a carpenter & joiner.
