My knitting log

Knitting Log

At the beginning of Lent 2009, I took up knitting after several years. I'd been spending too much time on the computer, and wanted to rediscover a craft I had previously enjoyed. I decided to knit toys, as garments just took too long, and had admired a knitted Nativity set I'd seen for the previous two Christmas periods in the local craft shop display window.......The pattern was on sale at the shop, one of Jean Greenhowe's......I was all set.

I had no idea how fast I would be able to work, and so decided to start with baby Jesus, the crib, Mary, and Joseph. This part of the project took me about 10 days to knit.

Next came the shepherds and sheep. I enjoyed knitting these, especially using the muted colours, and speckly wool for their coats.

The Three Wise Men were a challenge, initially to find wool that was colourful without being too bright. The orange and sage green took some finding! The red king is my favourite!

Here is the finished Nativity. It took exactly four weeks to complete.
