Hilgay, a parish in the hundred of Clackclose, county of Norfolk, 3 1/2 miles (S. by E.) from Downham-Market, containing 968 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £10. The King presented in 1819. The church is dedicated to All Saints. Near the bank of the Ouse in this parish was a small priory of Black monks, a cell to Ramsey abbey
