Thomas and Annie Beatrice MAYS

(née SHILCOCK) 

Thomas was born in 1856 to Thomas William and Sarah MAYS.

He was a JP and chairman of Bourne council,and one of the first people in Bourne to own a car.

His family were fellmongers and skin dealers.By the end of the 19th cetury,his firm of TW Mays and Sons Ltd was thriving in Bourne.They were wool merchants and fertiliser manufacturers.

annieAnnie Beatrice SHILCOCK was born in 1875 to John Baxter and Alice SHILCOCK.

She was Fanny's older sister and aunt to Joyce.

Joyce was born just a few months before Raymond. so the two sisters were pregnant at the same time. But Fanny was presumably in London, 100 miles away. Annie lived to the age of 97. She died on 30th July 1973.

Thomas & Annie had just one child,

He was (Thomas) Raymond MAYS(born 1 Aug 1899 Bourne) who went on to become the pioneer of British motor racing,

Raymond died on 6th January 1980, at home, Eastgate House, in Bourne. His death notice appeared in The Times newspaper, as did his obituary(below).
