William and Ellen CHAPMAN

(née BONUS)

William CHAPMAN was baptised in Wimbotsham, Norfolk on 19th July 1829. His parents were Francis and Maria CHAPMAN (née WILKINSON).

In 1851, William was living with his mother and step - father(William WHITEMAN) in Wimbotsham.

William worked for the Hare Estate as woodman. He remarried in 1866, three years after Ellen died. He died in 1909 aged 80.

Ellen BONUS was born in Wimbotsham, Norfolk in 1825. daughter of William and Mary BONUS(née AVON) , Her father, William was the village blacksmith.

In 1851 she was working as a domestic servant for the WOOD family in Downham.

She died in July 1863 aged 38, in childbirth.

7th June 1852

at Wimbotsham Church

They had 6 children.

Sarah(b. 1853). Unmarried. Confectioner in London. Click here for more.

Sarah provided a home from home for sisters and nieces over the years.

Robert(b.Feb 1858). Married Eliza CATCHPOLE at Downham Primitive Chapel in 1880.

Emma (b.1854). She gave birth to a son, Robert William, in Dec 1875. he only lived for a year.

Living in Kensington in 1891, aged 34, single. Married Bussey William WOODROW in 1887 at Haverstock Hill,St Pancras. Living at St George, Hanover Sq in 1901, with a son from his first marriage. Widowed by 1911, living at 118, Malden Rd!
Mary Ann (b.Nov 1858). Married Henry WRIGHT in 1887 at Haverstock Hill, St Pancras. They had 3 children, Frank, Hilda and Kate. In 1931 she was living in Westminster with daughter Hilda. In 1938 she was in Hampstead with daughter Kate. She died in Hampstead in 1951.

James(b.1857). Married Rachel RUTLEDGE in Wimbotsham in 1877. In 1881,1891 and 1901 they were living in Wimbotsham, Norfolk. Click here. For more about their family,
