William and Mary BONUS

(née AVON)

William BONUS b. c1795, in Marham, Norfolk, to William and Ellen BONEHOUSE, was a blacksmith, living in Wimbotsham, Norfolk.

In 1831, William was sentenced to a year's imprisonment at Norwich castle gaol. Click here for details.

I have yet to find William's death and burial but unless he moved away, it was post 1831 and pre 1841.

Mary AVON was born c1798.

She died in childbirth at the age of 31, and was buried in Stow Bardolph, Norfolk on 1 Nov 1829.

They were married

on 15 Nov 1816

at Wimbotsham church

Their children were:

 William

b 1817 a blacksmith. Married Susan. In 1851 they were living in Wimbotsham with Ann Maria(aged 7), Harriett(aged 4) and Sarah(aged 1). By 1861 they were in Stow Bardolph with 4 children. Still there in 1871. In 1881 they were in Stow Bardolph. William(aged 23, a shoemaker) and Ellen(aged 16, a dressmaker) were living at home with their parents. In 1891 and 1901, Susan and son William (still single, still making shoes ) were still living in Stow Bardolph, William having died in 1884. Susan lived until 1906. Both she & William are buried in Stow churchyard.

James

b.1820. Married Martha GORDON and they were living in Stow Bardolph in 1851 with their son William(aged 8 months). James died in 1858 and Martha remarried the following year to Robert Ward. In 1861 , William their son is now 10. In 1881 William BONUS, their son is on the Stow Bardolph census, married to Alice (FICKLING - from Barton) with 3 children, Martha(aged 6), Mary(aged 4), and Bertha(aged 2). In 1891, William & Alice were living in Downham with Edith(Mary) and Bertha was visiting the "Cherry tree" PH in Downham.

Henry

 b.1823. Married Ann RICHER. In 1851 they had just one son, Charles, and were living in Wimbotsham. Charles died in 1860. Wimbotsham parish register shows two further children-Harriett(bp. 1860, bur. 1861 aged 17 mths) and Henry(bp. 1863-died Sep qtr 1863). henry's wife Ann died in 1863.

Unfound to date in 1871, by 1881 he appeared as Henry BONNES at Wisbech St. Peter, aged 55, unmarried, a boarder, ag lab. Henry was still living in Wisbech St. Peter in 1891(as BONUS) aged 65, widowed, and in 1901(as BONNES) was aged 74, a retired farm labourer married to Mary, aged 64,(from Wisbech).

Ellen bp. 19 Jul 1829. My GG grandma, she was only 2 when her mother died. She was still single in 1851, In 1852 she married William CHAPMAN in Wimbotsham. She died in 1863 and was buried in Stow Bardolph.
