I noticed under the Fargus Family you had listed a Martin Fargus of Hoboken, New Jersey in the 1880 census. Martin is my Great Grandfather and his surname was listed as Fargus on the 1880 census but his surname is Fergus.
His sons were born in Hoboken, NJ (John - 1891 and Martin Jnr - 1893) and their mother was Mary Quinn. Both sons were baptised at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hoboken. Martin Jnr's surname was registered as Fargus and the mother's maiden name was registered as Queen. Apparently she died shortly after Martin Jnr was born and in 1894 Martin Snr brought his sons back to Bekan, Mayo to live with his sisters. Martin Snr returned to the USA in approx. 1903-1905. I have no record of his whereabouts after this.
John and Martin Jnr applied to go back to the USA in approx. 1916/1917 and it appears that Martin Snr had died around that time.
Martin Snr was born in Bekan, County Mayo in 1854, his parents were William Fergus and Bridget McGrath. He had two sisters Margaret (born in 1851 - Bekan and Mary born 1857 - Bekan).
The elder son John (my grandfather) married Margaret Hunt in Bekan, Mayo. Margaret was from either Bracklagh or Brickeens - she had a twin brother - I think he may have been called Michael but I am not sure I know she was from quite a large family.
John and Margaret continued to live in Bekan and had four children: Austin, Martin (nicknamed Ginger), Margaret (Peg) and my father John. All of whom have died, my father last October and Margaret (Peg) suddenly this February.
Martin Jnr had previously been a loco fireman in New London, Conn. USA before returning to Bekan where he remained until his death.
I have noticed that they have also spelt Martin Snr's surname as Ferguson (Ellis Island Passenger Lits - 1905). Also on research of the Fergus surname it mentions that Ferris was the old way of spelling Fergus but I have not as yet done a search on this surname.
I think Martin Snr's father (William) may have been born in County Kilkenny in 1812 and it shows his parents as John Fergus and Mary Delaney. I have not had much success after this though.
