Notes:

Robert arrived in Boston 16 September 1632 on the "Lyon" as a single man, perhaps a servant to one of the other passengers. He may have settled in Newtown (Cambridge) MA with the other ship passengers. In 1638 Robert was arrested for "Cursing and Swearing", with a punishment (Tongue put in cleft stick). He (and Ann?) soon moved to Hartford, CT by 1639. Robert was again in trouble in 1646 for "Giving ill counsel to the prisoners, advising they should not preach - Punished by being Whipped".

They moved to Northampton, MA in 1656. In Northampton their home lot was on the west side of what is now Pleasant Street, at the lower end, next to the meadow.
1658:"Upon wch 28th Day of September Thomas Roote Complayned of Robert Bartlett in an action of the Case for strikinge his the said Thomas his wife wth a long stick to prjudice."
1667:"James Bennet, Godfrey Nims & Benoni Stebbins, young lads of Northampton... are accused by Robert Bartlett for that they gott into his house two Sabbath dayes when all the family were at the Publike Meeting: On ye first of wch tymes, they vizt. 24 shillings in silver & 7s in Wampum with the intention to run away to the ffrench: Al which is by them confessed, wch wickedness of theires hath also been accompanyd with frequent lying to excuse & justify themselves especially on Nims his pt, who it seemes hath been a ringleader in their vilainys: ffor all wch their crimes and misdemeanors this Corte doth Judge yt the said 3 lad s shalbe well whipt on their naked bodys vizt, Nims & Bennet with 15 lashes apeece & Bononi Stebbins with 11 lashes. And the said Nims & Stebbins are to pay Robert Bartlett the summe of 4L being counted treble according to law for what goods he hath lost by their meanes."

March 14, 1676, Northampton was attacked, its defences broken through in three places, and five houses and five barns burned. A large number of soldiers being quartered there the assailants soon drew off, but not until they had killed Robert Bartlett and Thomas Holton, and two other men and two women.
