Notes:
John was an extensive land-holder in Westerly. "Maxson's Purchase," containing 2,684 acres, belonged to a company of which he was one. John and Judith joined the Seventh-day Baptist Church in July of 1692.
"At a meeting of the church on the 9th of the 7th month, 1712, by appointment, the church taking into consideration the necessity of choosing a person to the place and office of a deacon, did make choice and mutually agree and desire that Bro. John Maxson, Jr., be the person as [page 55] afore said. The said Bro. Maxson did desire some time for consideration before he gave answer thereto." He became an elder in 1719.
The last act recorded of Eld. Maxson was assisting at the ordination of Eld. John Davis at the Shrewsbury, N.J. church , where Mr. Davis had gone with others who had been dismissed from the church at Westerly. The ordination took place July 12th, 1746.
John "died in July, 1747, in the eighty-first year of his age"
Jul 25, 1748: Inventory. viz: pocket book, money and wearing apparel, books and gloves, cow, heifer, parts of bible, Josephus' History, part of a warming pan, part of a spinning wheel, 7 sheep, old mare, calf, 2 wether shiip, 20 . due next Christmas for a sheep, etc
