  Events in his life were:

• He was a partner from 1807 to 1813 with Samuel and Luther Hoadley in Winchester CT as S. HOADLEY & Co. Both the Hoadley brothers served as officers during the War of 1812, leaving Whiting in charge of the works.

• He worked from 1813 to 1814 as a clockmaker in Winchester CT

• He was a partner from 1814 to 1819 with Samuel Hoadley in Winchester CT as HOADLEY & WHITING.

• He worked from circa 1819 to 1835 as a clockmaker in Winsted CT
  His works were continued by his widow and son until 1841, when it was purchased by Lucius Clarke and William Lewis Gilbert.

Riley married Urania Hoadley, daughter of Lemuel Hoadley and Urania Mallory, on 9 Feb 1806. (Urania Hoadley was born on 5 May 1788 in Waterbury CT and died on 8 Dec 1855.)
