The Dukes Brothers after the CCCs

Clarence Edward Dukes and James Howard Dukes, brothers came from Central City, Kentucky and were sent to Camp McKinley in Oregon. According to Jim Dukes, son of Clarence, they came out of 3558th Company CCC Camp SCS-6, Morganfield, Ky. before being sent to Camp McKinley in Oregon.

And from Howard's son, David, comes this personal info--- Howard Dukes came back home to Kentucky and joined the Air Force in 1941 and served most of the time as Mess Sergeant and was stationed stateside traveling all over the U.S.. In 1942, he married Mildred, his wife, and they spent 69 happy years together before her death in 2011. According to David, his father claimed that they never had a fight between them during their whole marriage, and David added that he never saw them even argue with one another He was still living at 94 years of age in his own apartment in Elizabethtown, Ky. at the time of the March 2012 note from David. Besides David, they also had a daughter, Mildred.

After Howard's discharge, he was trained as a shoe repairman as part of the GI benefits. He worked in his uncle's shoe shop for a few years then he went to work for Louisville Tin and Stove Company in Louisville, and in 1951 went to work for Louisville Gas & Electric from which he retired in 1981.

Following retirement he devoted spare time to wood-working projects in his shop at home, including the building of custom cabinets for some folks, and also in younger years, he helped build two houses with friends.
