General Notes: According to the Passenger List, Fred and his family immigrated to the United States to Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. They were meeting his friend Robert Schofield husband of Florence (Bancroft) at the address of Box 387, Sanford, York, Maine. They had a child by the name of Hilda Schofield who was born March 16, 1898 in Summit Lane, Rochdale, Lancashire, England. She married William Henry Ambler on April 22, 1918 in Sanford, York, Maine and had two children. One died on the same day as birth.

Fred Sladen, well known local loomfixer, died at his home in lower Main street at an early hour Sunday morning, after a brief illness. Mr Sladen was 49 years of age and was born in Lancashire, England. He is survived by a wife and two sons, Frank and Irving. He was well known in town, being a member of Mousam Lodge of Moose and the local lodge of Sons of St George. The funeral was held at his late home on Wednesday afternoon and was conducted by Reverend E S Philbrook, pastor of the Baptist Church.

Services will be held at 2:30 pm, today at the Hurd Funeral Home, 10 Winter street, with burial in Oakdale Cemetery. The Reverend Eugene Philbrook will officiate. Born in Littleborough, England, the daughter of Thomas Hartley and Jane Windle. Mrs Sladen was a resident of Sanford 38 years. She attended the Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Frank, 308 Lower Main street, and Ervine, North Lebanon; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces in England.

parish on the one hand, and Mathilda Chaput of age daughter of Leon Chaput and Marie
Lammonde this parish on the other hand, the exemption two banns of marriage
granted by Celramaine Alfred Archambault Chanceliur of this Archdiocese and
being discovered any prevention nor opposition to the known as marriage
received ourselves their mutual consentment marriage and gave them to the
bridal blessing in the presence of François Blais friend of husband and Napoleon
Deschaine brother-in-law of the wife which have declared to sign as well as

It shows that he was born in Maine and his parents were born in Canada and that he was a House Painter working on his own account. It also states that he was able to read and write.

In the 1920 Sanford, Maine Census it shows that George B Savageau was living at 25 Thompson St. He is the head of household and his age shows as 48. He was born in Canada and came to the United States in 1901 and is currently and Alien. He is able to read and write and his parents were both born in Canada. He is able to speak English. He was a House Painter working on his own account.

The marriage of his daughter Marie Mathilda to Ervine Sladen showed that George Savageau was a resident of Sanford, his Occupation was a Mill Op and his birthplace was St. Auburn, Vermont.

In the 1930 Sanford, Maine Census it shows that George B Savageau was living at 81 Brook St. He is the head of household and owned the house which was worth $2,000.00. The house they lived in was not considered a farm. His age was listed as 52 and that he was married and 18 years old when he was first married. He is listed as being born in Vermont and his father was born in Canada and mother in Maine. It states that he is able to speak English. His occupation is listed as Building Painter working on his own account and is currently not employed.

His death record lists that he died April 29, 1957 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It lists his birth date as November 1, 1872 in St Albans, Vermont. He was a widow at the time of his death. His parents were not listed. He was buried on May 2, 1957 in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. General Notes: The community was saddened by the death of Mrs Alice M Whitcomb, which occurred at the home of Mr and Mrs Moses S Moulton last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. She had been in poor heatlh for several years, but for the past few months had been failing rapidly. She was well known throughout the town and had a host of friends who will greatly mourn the loss. She was born in this place March 18, 1881, and was the daughter of Elias J and Ellen M A Fletcher. She attended the public schools and on June 24, 1897, graduated with honors from the Sanford high school. She was married January 8, 1899, to Freemont Eugene Whitcomb, also of this place. For about seven years she successfully conducted a millinery business, having parlors on Lower Main street. She was a devoted member of the Christian Science church of Boston and was greatly interested in the work here. She was also a member of Ruhamah Rebeka Lodge, No 53, of Springvale, the Springvale Grange. Arbutus Temple No 27, Pythian Sisters, and the Sanford High School Alumni Association. She was a woman of highest character and was loved and Christian Science service was read by Miss Ovens, of New York. Interment was made in Oakdale cemetery. There was a bountiful and beautiful display of floral offerings, a fitting testimony to the regard in which she was held. Owing to some of the cards becoming detached, an accurate list of flowers could not be obtained. General Notes: Funeral services, were held Monday morning at 8 o'clock at the Holy Family Church for Mrs Jane Pepin, 70, widow of Ludger Pepin, who died at her home on Harding street last Thursday night. She had been ill a long time. A native of Princeville, Quebec, daughter of the late Ludger and Philamize Lacourse Pepin, she had lived here the past 23 years and was a member of the Sodality of Ladies of St Anne of the Holy Family Church. Surviving are seven sons, Desire of St Norbert, Quebec; Alphonse, Sanford; Nelson, Rimouski, Quebec; Rudolph, Sanford; Conrad, Sherbrooke; Robert of Montreal and Armand of Stowe; six daughters, Mrs Aurore Gagne, Norwalk, Connecticut; Mrs Yvonne Laitres, Bridgeport, Connecticut; Mrs Jeannette Hurtubise, Bridgeport; Mrs Blanche Foucault, Miss Jane Pepin and Mrs Rolande Alors, all of Sanford; two sisters, Mrs Andre Laneville, Princeville; Mrs Octave Guay, LacNoir, Quebec; two brothers, Wilfred and William Pepin of Princeville; 40 granchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Interment was in the St Ignatius Cemetery.

General Notes: On Thursday, April 21, James H Bland passed away at his residence on River Street. He is survived by the widow Sara J Bland, two sons Howard and Frank, and one daughter Alice. Mr Bland was a native of Yorkshire, England and came to this country about 20 years ago, living in Jamestown, New York. He came to this town fifteen years ago and has since made it his home. He saw the building of the Worsted Mill and was one of the first workmen employed. The deceased had a host of friends in Sanford and the family have their deepest sympathy. The funeral was held Sunday from the residence, Reverend Alexander Hamilton officiating. After the singing of "Lead Kindly Light", Mr Hamilton in appropriate words spoke of the respect in which he was held by those who knew him and commended him to call of him who knows what is best, after which the chorus sang "Sometime We'll Understand". he singing was by Mrs Frank Alcott, William Nutter and Miss Annie Murdock and Nellie Mitchell. Thirty-one wool sorters from the Springvale and Sanford Mills escorted the remains to the cemetery. The pall bearers were O V Libby, F Broggi, John Watson and Mr Mosley. Undertaker Wentworth had charge of the funeral arrangements. The following relatives from out of town were present. Mr & Mrs Craven Midgley, Lowell; Mr & Mrs William Midgley, Somerville; Mrs Lockwood, Haverhill; Mr Berry Laycock, Franklin, Massachusetts. General Notes: Funeral Services for Mrs Alphonsine Camire, 70, were conducted at the St Ignatius Church Tuesday morning. A decon and sub-decon high mass of requiem was sung. Rev Raoul Boudeau, assisted by Rev Lionel Brunelle as decon and Rev Onezine Lanouette as sub-decon officiated. The mass was sung by a special quartet from Somersworth, New Hampshire, composed of Arthur Lemelin, director, Antonio Lemelin, a nephew of the deceased, Adjutor Turgeon and Mrs Anna Lauziere. Arthur Lemelin rendered a solo, "Au Revoir Au Ciel." Mrs Camire was a native of St Norbert, Canada. She had been residing in Sanford for the past 25 years. She was very active in the affairs of her parish. Besides her widower, she is survived by nine sons, Emile of New York, Rene of Springfield, Massachusetts, Peter of Winchester, Massachusetts, Joseph of Manitoba, Nazaire of Eureka, California, Wilfred of France, Napoleon, Fred and Ludger of Sanford, six daughters, Mrs Ephraim Adams of Canada, Mrs Fred Roussin, Mrs Loren Libby, Mrs Francis Desrochers, Mrs Frank Bland and Mrs Arthur Tripp of Sanford; six sisters, Mrs Antonia Laliberte, Mrs Alphonse Beaupre of Somersworth, New Hampshire; Mrs Augusta Normand of Willimansett, Massachusetts; Mrs Theophile Leblanc and Mrs Ludger Leblanc of Canada; Misklilima Normand of Sanford, two brothers, Nazaire Bouffard of Manchester, New Hampshire and Claude Bouffard of Sanford. There was a large delegation of Ladies of Ste Anne, of which she had been of member for the past 25 years, at the funeral service. The bearers were her nephews Albert Bouffard, August Laliberte, Arthur Normand, Wilfred Bouffard, Joseph Boudreau and Nazaire Leblanc. The honorary brears from the Ladies of Ste Anne were Mrs Nazaire Gendron, preisdent, Mrs Isola Allaire, Mrs Elzear Roussin, Mrs William Roussin and Mrs Albert Michaud. Burial was in St Ignatius Cemetery.
