Soldiers Graves, War of 1812--Town of Pierrepont--PE005

 

There are two graves of soldiers who died while on a march during the War of 1812. They are buried in the woods on County Road 24, which connects the hamlet of Pierrepont with State Highway 56, between Hannawa Falls and Colton. There is a historical marker sign at this site, which is 1.3 miles from State Highway 56 and 2.1 miles from Pierrepont, (the Russell-Pierrepont Road).

 

There is a short path through the woods to the graves, which have military plaques at the site. Land on both sides of the path is posted.

 

The only information on the plaques is as follows:

 

Elijah Sackett April 13, 1813

 

Unknown April 7, 1813

 

The measured coordinates for this site are 44 33 55 North, and 074 59 07 West, at an estimated elevation of 165 feet.
