Croquet Anyone?

carl_laura_27_mar_00_nl.jpg

Carl hamming it up with Laura - manager of the Captain's Grill Restaurant. Laura runs a tight ship, making her rounds of the establishment with regularity, sometimes standing in as cashier. Always cheerful, and graciously willing to participate in our photo-ops. Evidently there is a croquet court on the premises, hence the sign.

....Or Under It

Bill Q., Dick, and Earl, getting a tour of Gary's Cadillac SUV engine compartment. Sure looks nice and clean. Gary says he gets about nine miles per gallon. Certainly a classy truck alright.

View From Dick's Position

ne_vu_pool_27_mar_00_nl.jpg

He's no dumby! This is why Dick sits inboard, looking outboard - this commanding view of the pool area gives him more entertainment than the group can provide. Though he can't hear too well, he has the eyesight of an eagle.

Richard's View Dead Ahead

No head turning require for Dick. Of course us fellows facing inboard must turn, but the conversation is too interesting.

A MORE HANDSOME GROUP NEVER MET

O/A 1115 Ed pulled into Carl's driveway where he was pacing puffing away on cigarette, kicking a small pile of butts scattering them about as Ed was some 15 min late. Carl lunged into the Jimmy, settling in under safety belt. As the Jimmy was getting underway, Carl's wife Greta appeared approaching her Cadillac, Ed voicing his admiration of a pretty gal. She with a big smile hop skipped to & entered her vehicle, going her way, Ed & Carl heading for the Capt,s Grill.
Arriving about 1125 both were surprised at the group already assembled, Diane already changed Carl,s heave arounds to insure freshness. The eyes of Bill Q., Bill V.,Kurt, Dennis,Gary, Earl, Dick, all turned adoringly with relief to Ed & Carl, snapping to attention.
As seating took place Earl opend a fat envelope of pictures of Gene, his great grandson and daughter. Also a picture of Ed sitting in his Jimmy showing the magnetic ads on the side. All with reverence took turns gazing at Ed's picture, finguring it with love & adoration. Carl had two heave arounds before the picture got to him, so with a grunt, quick scan, lifted the glass to his lips, no motion lost.
Dick got on Carl over porno as it seems that Carl superinposed 4 nudes on a picture taken of the pool. Also mentioned porno on PC, subject quickly dropped when a tall beautiful blond approached the table. Ed became rigid, that is his back did, when he recognized his Shirley. With a hug for old friend Carl she sat between Ed & Carl. A pleasant surprise having her grace our MMMM.
Earl describes an expert as an glorified idiot, Ed seemed to detect Earl looking out the cornor of his eye toward him. Earl also quickly noted a cracked water glass Diane just served Ed. Even glasses get overwhelmed being next to Ed.
Almost an hour into the gathering Bobbi limps in, her left leg encased in walking cast due to fractured foot, probably from kicking some wise beach bum, as she lives on the beach. Bobbi, attractive, never seems to age, must have to fend off those Cocoa Beach bums at times.
Bill Q. , Gary, Earl talked of steam engines on plows in the old days in Germany & other places. Kurt also remembering them in Sweden, having to start them with a blow torch Ed & Earl talking about LARC's & BARC's, of the many accidents within the military, of vehicles, the inexperience of the milpers in handling each. Carl trying to convince Shirley to change over her PC to his program. Someone mentioned Dick laughed like a hyena, but he would not give all a sample, thank goodness. Kurt told of phone bargains which he sells, sounded like some good bargains, Carl, saying he couldn't go to New Orleans because he couldn't affordit, Ed spoofing saying you cant take it with you. Gary upset because wife Mary did not get a job she tried for with Cocoa, Ed assuring Gary he will get her hired.
The food was good, several elements of salad, mixed veggies, chicken, pork, sausage. The sausage is a weekly event due to Carl's request as the cook verified this date. Delicious desert, 3 different cakes. The dining room about half full.
Things broke up about 1300. Another good get together, all going to just deserves. Someday maybe there will be at least twenty at MMMM
Don't forget the picnic in May, the reunion in N, O, in Sept.
Give it hell Have faith Be happy
Ed

Gene Si. Returns From Brooklyn

Gene Si. returns tonight from several weeks visiting family in New York. While there, he meandered down to Shore Parkway at the foot of 69th Street to be precise, to update photos of the construction of the new 69th Street Pier. For those of us of the "Army" days, and early MSTS days, when "Lant" headquarters were in the Brooklyn Army Terminal, 69th Street Pier was a familiar landmark.
