Chester VanEmburgh, 81, of 61 N. Greenwood Ave., Palmer Township, an Easton area realtor and insurance agent for 50 years, died Wednesday in Palmer Township. Northampton County Deputy Coroner Gene Schoch ruled the death voluntary from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
VanEmburgh was the husband of Doris (Shade) VanEmburgh.
He owned and operated the Chester VanEmburgh Real Estate and Insurance Co., Easton.
He recently retired from the Northampton County Board of View and the Northampton County Board of Assessments.
Born in Hughsville, N.J., he was a son of the late Eben and Elizabeth VanEmburgh.
He served on the board of directors of the Pomfret Club, Easton.
Surviving with his widow are two daughters, Jean Bonnett and Carol McDonald, both in Florida; four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. The Strunk Funeral Home, 2101 Northampton St., Wilson, is in charge of arrangements.

She had lived in Phillipsburg nearly all her life.
She was a visiting nurse and was also the school nurse in Lopatcong
Township for 20 years, retiring in 1966. Earlier in her nursing career
she worked in Easton and Warren hospitals.
She was a 1932 graduate of Phillipsburg High School and a 1933
graduate of the Easton Hospital School of Nursing .
Membership: She was a member of the Stewartsville Presbyterian
Church, where she was a former deacon and elder, a volunteer in the
Meals on Wheels program, a representative to the Phillipsburg area
Council of Churches and a member of the Women's Association.
She was a member of Delaware Chapter 50, Order of the Eastern Star in
Phillipsburg, the New Jersey Retired Teachers Association and the
Sunny Seniors of Phillipsburg.
Survivors: a daughter, Carol A. Toth of Langhorne, Pa.; a sister Mary
Jane Majkowski of Southampton, Long Island, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren;
and 14 great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 13, 1954 in Phillipsburg, a daughter of Eddy Warford and Arlene J. Sloyer Opdycke, she lived in Uhlerstown and Point Pleasant, Pa., before moving to Pennsburg six years ago. Her joy in life was spending time with her family. She was a former member of the Milford Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by two nephews, Eddy Warford Opdycke III and Hugh Evans Opdycke. Susan is survived by her brothers, Eddy Warford Opdycke II and his wife Judith of Uhlerstown and Robert G. Opdycke and his wife Katherine of Richmond, Va.; her sister, Faith O. VENTURA, Calif. -- Philip A. Phillips, Jr., 86, formerly of Milford, died on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005 in Ventura, Ca.

Born August 11, 1918 in Pohatcong, he was a son of the late Philip and Hilda Sloyer Phillips.

He was a graduate of Frenchtown High School, Class of 1935. He joined the Army in 1941 and married the former Elizabeth Van Horn of Stockton at the Base Chapel in Fort Belvoir, Va. He served in England, North Africa, and Italy in the Engineer Corps as a First Lieutenant. After leaving the Army, he entered Rutgers University and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1952, with his family, he moved to California to a job at the Los Angeles County Road Department and was the City Traffic Engineer for the City of La Mirada, Ca. He retired in 1978.

Philip was a past president of the Toast Masters, was past president of the La Mirada Golf Club, was an active member of the Whittier Elks Club, and the Retired Elks Camping Group. He served many years in the Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Major.

He is survived by a daughter, Nanci and her husband, Steve of Ventura, Calif.; a son, Tom and his wife, Thelma of Gilford, N.H.; four grandchildren, Stephanie Garrett Barber, Scott Garrett, Paul and Alan Phillips; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Durnan of Upper Black Eddy, Pa., and Lois Sampson of Phillipsburg. Three brothers, Donald, David, Paul, and two sisters, Verna and Eileen, all died earlier.

Graveside services with Military Honors were held at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, the former Merle A. Longley; a son, David of Phillipsburg; a daughter, Diane Shaw of Milford and Phil Jr. of Whittier, Calif.; two sisters, Lois Sampson of Phillipsburg and Dorothy Durnan of Upper Black Eddy, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

Deceased Name: Elmer C. Sampson, Jr. Elmer C. Sampson, Jr., 78, of Phillipsburg, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2006, in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg.
Born: March 24, 1928 in Easton, he was a son of the late Elmer C., Sr. and Margaret Shaneberger Sampson.
Personal: Elmer retired from the Maintenance Department at Warren Hospital in 1993. Prior to that, he had worked at the J.T. Baker Company, the Prudential Insurance Company, and Riegel Paper Company.
Elmer was of the Presbyterian faith.
He was an avid sports fan, and coached football, basketball, and baseball for the PAL organization in Phillipsburg for many years.
He enjoyed reading, and especially reading about the Civil War.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served as a paratrooper and ranger in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a graduate of Easton High School, Class of 1945.
He and his wife, the former Lois Phillips, observed their 47th wedding anniversary on January 16th.
Elmer was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors: In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Thomas R., and his wife, Jean, of Forks Township, and Greg, and his wife, Jennifer, of East Brunswick, N.J.; a daughter, Kathy Fehley, and her husband, Jeff, of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, James L., of Palmer Township; seven grandchildren, Heather, Devon, Sara, David, Jaclyn, Gregory, and Lillian; nieces and nephews.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg. Call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwich Cemetery, Greenwich Township, N.J.
Memorials: Contributions may be made to the Warren Hospital Foundation, 185 Roseberry St., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Beulah M. SEIFERT, 97, formerly of Roth Avenue, Hellertown, died Friday in Zohlman Nursing Home, Richardland. She was the wife of the late Thurston E. SEIFERT.

Born in Lower Saucon Township, she was a daughter of the late Amandus and Sallie (BARRON) SLOYER.

She was a member of Ebenezer Bible Fellowship Church, Bethlehem, and its Women's Missionary Society.

Survivors: Sons, Arlington L. of Newfoundland, Wayne County, and Delbert L. of Coopersburg; daughter, Celestine M. of Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanora BUDDOCK.

Thurston E. Seifert, 92, of 136 Roth Ave., Hellertown, died Thursday in St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Beulah M. (Sloyer) Seifert.
He was a gauge man in the beam yard at Bethlehem Steel Corp. for many years before retiring in 1967.
Born in Durham Township, he was a son of the late Edwin and Arvesta (Stonebach) Seifert.
He was a member of Ebenezer Bible Fellowship Church, Bethlehem.
Surviving with his widow are two sons, Arlington L. of Newfoundland, Wayne County, and Delbert L. of Coopersburg R.4; a daughter, Celestine M. of Chicago, Ill.; a brother Nevin of Bethlehem; a sister, Mrs. Florence Swartz of Hellertown R.1; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Eleanora Buddock, preceded him in death.
Services will be announced by the Templeton-Heintzelman Funeral Home, 326 Main St., Hellertown.
