The within named Joseph Markey the son and
sole executor was duly sworn before me

This will was proved the 16th day of March 1799 before the Rev'd Tho Rudge surrogate to the Worshipful Edward Cooke, M. A. Vicar General in Spirituals of the Right Rev''d father in God Richard by Divine permission Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Gloucestor & of this Episcopal Consistory official principal lawfully Constituted by Joseph Markey the son and sole Executor to whom
In the Name of God Amen I James Markey of the parish of Taynton in the county of Gloucester carpenter being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding do make publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say First I give devise and bequeath to my loving wife Ann Markey all that tenement barn buildings with two gardens one orchard two pieces of trable (tractable?) land and one piece of pasture wherein I now dwell and now all in my own possession to hold the same tenement buildings lands and premises unto my said wife Ann Markey for and during the term of her natural life if she shall so long continue my widow and remain unmarried all my household goods furniture horses mares sheep and piggs and personal estate whatsoever except what is herein after given and from and immediately after my said wife's decease or day of marriage I give devise and bequeath the aforesaid tenement buildings lands and premises to my son Joseph Markey and to his heirs and assigns forever nevertheless subject to the payment of the logacios* herein after mentioned. Also I give and bequeath to my son John Markey the sum of thirty pounds . Also I give and bequeath to my daughter Christian Hastings the sum of ten pounds. Also I give and bequeath to my grandson James Halloway two ________ which all the aforesaid logacios or sum of money are to be paid within twelve months after my said wife's decease or day of marriage out of the aforesaid tenement buildings lands and premises and I charge with payment accordingly. Also I give and devise and bequeath to my said son John Markey the sheeps coat garden and piece of land containing together by estimation about one acre be the same more or less , commonly called or known by the name of the common patch to hold the same unto my said son John Markey for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease I give devise and bequeath the same to his eldest child then living lawfully begotten and to his heirs and assigns forever and my will and desire is that my said son John is to have the last mentioned land immediately after my decease paying to my said wife twelve shillings per anum during her natural life if she continues my widow and remains unmarried. I also give and bequeath to my said son John immediately after my decease my clock and clockcase and all my wearing apparrol both woollen and linen. I also give and bequeath to my said sons Joseph and John equally between them all my household goods except what is first given. Also all the rest residue and remains of my chattles moneys and securities for money and personal estate whatsoever and whosoever after my said wife's decease or day of marriage. I give and bequeath to my said son Joseph Markey whom I hereby nominate constitute and appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty fourth day of September one thousand seven hundred and ninety six.
Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator James Markey as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us, who, at his request, in his presence, and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses of _______
