batdorf

     Most of the information on this line came from various sites on the internet. I want to thank Bill Hughes, Yvonne Anspach, and Robert King.  (See web sites listed below)  I was so excited when I found each one of these sites and have spent a lot of time seeking sources.  Unfortunately, I haven't found many of them yet, but the ones I've found are highlighted in this color.

Notes for JOHANNES JACOB PETER BATDORF:

 Peter evidently died in London before the family left for America.

 Notes for ANNA MARIA CATHERINE HERBER:

 Some on the web give her name as Herber, others Anspach.  We have never found any proof of either..

From The Palatine Families of New York 1710, copyright 1985 by Henry Z. Jones, Jr.:

ANNA BATTORFFIN (Hunter Lists #18)

  Peter Petturf, his wife and 5 ch. were recorded on Capt. Francois Warren's ship in Holland 3 July 1709 (Rotterdom Lists).

Anna Battorff made her 1st appearance on the Hunter Lists 30 June 1710 with 3 pers. over 10 yrs. of age in the household;

Fram Yvonne Anspach White's site:

Anna married (2) Johannes Georg Zellar in New York Colony, abt 1712. Anna died 1747 in Millbach, Lebanon Co.,PA. Her body was interred 1747 in Reith's Church, Stouchesburg,PA, Reith's Church Cemetery. She was christened in Steinbach,Taunas,Germany, 9 MAY 1682. She emigrated, 1708. Point of origin: Badorf,Germany. According to info. from Larry Patrick Cornwell, the Batdorf family fled their little village of Badorf, near Stuttgart, in the current state of Baden-Wurttenberg, Germany. They traveled by boat down the Rhine River to Rotterdam, Holland, then on to England. Johannes died in England in 1709. Anna Maria Catharina took the children on to America in 1710 - with hundreds of others. Three of her five children died enroute or shortly after they arrived in New York Colony on June 10,1710.

She resided in Tent structures on Nut Island, now Governor's Island 1710. She resided in Livingston Manor 1710. 14 hundred people were moved up almost 100 miles up the Hudson River to Livingston Manor, including the Batdorf, Walborn, & Anspach families. Today, there is a town of Livingstonville in Schoharie County. The three surviving Batdorfs lived in Livingston Manor for two years. Then they moved with a group of about 150 Germans, including the Walborns, to New Annsburg (sometimes called Schmidsdorf). New Annsburg was about 60 miles northwest of Livingston Manor in the Schoharie Valley. Mr. Cornwell states that it was a three week trek with sleds in snow without horses or roads. It was just before or soon after they made the journey that Anna Maria Catharina Anspach Batdorf married Johannes Zellar, in 1712.

She resided in New Annsburg /Schmidsdorf, Schoharie Valley, New York Colony 1712.

Information on the Johannes Jacob Peter Batdorf family was provided by Lawrence Patrick Cornwell.

NOTE:  It has been brought to my attention that there is a controversy about Anna Batdorf marrying Georg Zeller.  Hank Jones, in his book, Palatine Immigrants, says, "It might be wondered whether Johannes might not, in fact, have married the widow Anna Batdorf..However, calculations suggest Anna was at least 10 years his senior and probably a full generation older."  He goes on to say,  "Also, the SImmendinger List ---- shows Johannes Zoller, his wife Anna Catharina, and two children in one family andAnna Badtorffin, a widow and two children in another family.  This would seem to close the question as to Johannes having married the widow Anna, but seems to leave open the possibility that he might have been her son-in-law."
